The truth is that we don't know a lot about the universe. Now the logical thing to do when faced with a question you don't know the exact answer to is to come up with a logical explanation. A theory if you will. But instead you make up a magical deity to explain away what you don't know. That's what our ignorant ancestors did and we laugh at them now for believing in witchcraft, leprechauns, fairies, etc, not realizing that people today are doing the exact same thing.
