Forget the stupid rules and incompetent refs for a second, and just do some things that seem a little obvious.1) Show more games on national television. ABC doesn't show any games until Christmas and then after that it is no more than 1 or 2 games a week.2) Work something out with the NHL so that they don't have their finals at the same time.
^True. But the league can't control a lot rivalries, and big names on big markets (they can only influence the playoffs if you believe in the conspiracy theories). Simple shit like finding a TV channel that is willing to broadcast more games would instantly increase ratings and revenue. After football season, the NBA should go all out on Sundays.

During the regular season, the Western Conference only plays the Western Conference....and likewise for the Eastern Conference. This increases the potential for rivalries in your conference as you will be playing teams more often. It also (IMO) creates far more anticipation for the finals when you are watching two teams play against eachother (the best from the West and the best from the East) who havent met all year yet.
take away 2 free throw rules; they should only get 2nd if they make the first
