Lupe Fiasco Updates Fans on New LP: “‘Lasers’ is Out of my Hands”

Lupe Fiasco recently took to his Twitter account to inform fans of the status of his long delayed third studio album, Lasers, and he doesn’t seem to be too optimistic.

“Lasers is out of my hands guys and gals,” he wrote yesterday (July 12). “t’s done and that’s all I can tell you…when they drop it…they drop it…so drop it.”

“Really appreciate the EXTRA EXTRA effort you guys are putting out to get Lasers released,” he added. “[Not] fallin on deaf ears up at HQ!”

As previously reported, Lupe told Shade45 DJ Tony Touch that he handed the disc in to Atlantic back in January. Since making those statements, a video hit the Internet for the album’s lead single, “I’m Beaming” in April, but nothing else was released.

XXLMag.com reached out to Atlantic regarding the issue, but at press time they have yet to respond.

In the meantime, Lupe promises that his indie rock side project Japanese Cartoon will be coming shortly. “JC IS in my hands though…and that will be dropping Fo’ Free @ allsabotage.com like soon as hell…ha!” He then went on to say that the group’s LP, In the Jaws of the Lords of Death may arrive in a couple of days.

That's just part of the game, you ain't a slave at all.  You still make alot of money.  There are ways you can agree to more lenient terms on your contract.  It really depends on the kind of legal power you have when you sign, and your knowledge and wants of what you wish to receive/have luxuries of when you're under contract.

I don't know what the problem is with this situation.  It could be: they waiting for a good timeframe to drop (Now would have been good I think?  Ain't no hard hitterz coming out till Sept?) OR they don't like the material (Which in Lupe's case I find it hard to believe he gave them whack material)  They ain't gonna make him sit just for the fuck of it, Lupe is one of their top gunners at that label, so I really dunno what's up there....

There were two more.  I'm aware they were demos (rough versions) but I don't like the general direction he's headed in.

There were several snippets that leaked last year, 3 I believe, that sounded really dope but who knows what album they'll end up on.

I shouldn't react so harshly.  The more I hear it the more it sounds like a concept album, very specific atmosphere like Cudi's debut but not the same type of atmosphere.  Just a very coherent sound across the album.
