It was that comic that revolutionized Batman, and it would ironic, because it was what Burton based his movies off of and it would be what saves the Burton series it's self.

But Keaton would be too old now, wouldn't he? I never read the comic but with Keaton's age, they could totally bring him back in a Batman Beyond story.

Batman is over 50 in the Dark Knight return comics

yeap... his over 50 and half senile and thinks a girl is Robin. It's by far the only way you could ever end the Burton/Keaton series. I thought it would have been great back in like 2002/3, but after they rebooted it, I was like cool, I can live with this.

Well, in reference to the original poster's idea about using Keaton as Bruce Wayne in "Batman Beyond," it would work because in "Batman Beyond" Bruce Wayne is an old man and has passed on the mantle of Batman to a young man named Terry McGinnis. Bruce Wayne acts as a mentor to this, younger Batman and runs the operation behind the scenes, from the batcave.
I don't really know how I'd feel about Burton and Keaton returning to the Batman franchise at this point, but as far as Keaton's age, it would probably work out okay. If anything, Keaton might still be a little bit too young to play old Bruce Wayne. That of course could always be fixed by aging him with make up fx, though.
As far as possibly doing a movie adaptation of "The Dark Knight Returns," I think that could work, but I wouldn't want it to have any connection to the Nolan films. If anything, I'd rather Robert Rodriguez directed the movie, using the same hyper-stylized method that he used for "Sin City." Being the Frank Miller did the art for both of those comic books, I think the "Sin City" type aesthetics would be a perfect match for "The Dark Knight Returns." Plus there are so many elements to that comic book that would be difficult to reconcile in the Christopher Nolan reality-based Batman universe. Batman's big throwdown with Superman for example.
Shallow:
I'd rather see Tim Burton remake Casablanca with Michael Cera as Rick Blaine and Mr T as Ilsa than ever let him near a Batman property again.

Nobody can top Nolan's current Batman.

Lol. I knew you were gonna say that. And for the record, they should never remake "Casablanca." ;D But while we're stirring the pot, I still say "The Dark Knight Returns" is overrated. It's good yes, but far from Miller's best. On the other hand, it's better than anything he's written lately.
