Diddy Denies "Robbing" Bad Boy Artists, "They Don't Have No Proof That I've Ever Done Nothing Like That"

Bad Boy Records' CEO Sean "Diddy" Combs has denied accusations of doing his ex-artists "dirty" by mistreating them while on his label.

Based on an interview with VIBE, Puff addresses critics and defends his image.

"There's an off perception that needs to be addressed about me that I have ever robbed somebody or mistreated somebody. Or tried to be ruthless or whatever in this game. Like, all this year I've heard people say, 'Where's Carl Thomas, where's Black Rob, where's G.Dep? Where are these artists?' And for some reason they go ahead and equate that, cause those artists aren't with me, that I've done something wrong or malicious or conniving. It's something that I do have a problem with because they don't have no proof that I've ever done nothing like that." (Rap Radar)

Puff also said there are misconceptions with an entertainer's longevity in the music industry.

"[P]eople don't understand this game that we're in. You have a short life expectancy. It's rare to a me, to be a Jay-Z, an LL [Cool J], a Nas. That sh*t is a rarity. That's not even one percent of the rappers. If you look at any artists that were on Ruff Ryders, where they at? If you look at any artist that was on Def Jam at the time we started, where they at? If you look at any artist that was on Roc-A-Fella, Jive, where they at? It's not like anything was wrong with them. It's just that you have a four, five-year average in this game. That's just something I wanted to address." (Rap Radar)

Say what you will about Puff but there's a lot of truth to that statement. Fans have this idea that just because a talented person is put on a label with some notoriety (Death Row, Aftermath, G-Unit, whoever) that all it takes is for the label to release their album and "push" them and they will be huge. Whether it's breaking a new artist or creating a brand new buzz for a previously-established one, it's not as easy as a lot of these cats seem to think.

Not sure if LOX would agree with diddy.

I don't think Kim and Junior MAFIA were ever on Bad Boy. I think they were Big's artists he was developing outside of Puff over at Atlantic. I think a lot of dudes have serious misconceptions about what the music business is all about. Whether it's AFtermath, Death Row, or any of these labels, it's still very much a buisness.

^^^^

Yeah Kim and Mafia were on Big Beat / Undeas / Atlantic they were never signed to Bad Boy. As a matter of fact, Lil" Cease was kinda mad at Puff, cuz he wanted to actually sign to Bad Boy, and Puff wanted to hear some demos... and this was after Puff was on his debut LOL

I think what happened to Craig Mack and Shyne was fucked up but again, it wasn't Diddy robbing them, he might have fucked them a little (or a lot in Shyne's case) but again, I'm from the outside looking in and there's always two sides to this shit.

The thing with labels and record deals is the artist really got to figure out what they are worth because if you're expecting anyone of these guys like Diddy, Suge, Dame Dash, Dre, etc. to pay you more out of the good of their heart, it's just not gonna go down like that. If Bad Boy can make twenty-million dollars on an album and pay Mase fifteen cents for his part, they may just do that. It's fucked up but the reality is in order to be that high up in the business world, you need to put the bottom line ahead of personal business.

diddy should admit that he fucc'd g-dep, i mean the guy made two hits and diddy took them and made them his because he's the label owner, just because he needed to do anything to keep himself afloat as an artist, but he won't mention that shit, he shouldn't have went to jail for shyne tho, that would have been stupid, but to take your artist shit is some lame ass jew shit yell
