In this economy teams are much less eager to sign older players (especially ones with larger contracts and occasional attitude problems). Players like Jermaine Dye and Jarrod Washburn had great seasons last year but because of their rising age no one even gave them a chance. You can make a similar case for Manny. Two years ago teams would've been all over him, but things have changed.
