New Planet Discovered 2010; Could Planet Gliese G581 Be Like Earth?

The new planet discovered 2010 could be like earth, according to reports.  Located 20 light years from the planet earth, the new Planet Gliese G581 has the possibility to support lifeforms.  Of course, this is great news for those who are looking for the big space breakthrough of our time.

Unfortunately for the avid space fan, we will never get to see Gliese G581 because it would take hundreds of years to travel to with our current technology.  The new planet discovered is 20 light years away from our planet.

Life on the new planet wouldn't be like what we have come to expect.  It is dark on half the planet all the time, and light on the other half.  Why? Because it doesn't rotate.

Other similarities to earth are that it orbits a red dwarf star, similar to our sun.  The positioning of the planet in respect to its sun is similar to that of earth.  Theoretically, life forms could be present although it's not certain.

So far, we are the only planet in the solar system that can support life. We've long desired to find other life forms out in outer space.  Gliese G581 may be the link we desire.

The new discovery is a novel thing.  For more information on the new planet discovered 2010, click here.

Basically the only thing that makes this 'like earth' is the temperature, I don't see how this automatically makes it liveable.

We will have made mars liveable before we make it to Gliese G581
