Live Rap Performances: Who? Best & Worst?
« on: November 09, 2010, 11:36:40 AM »
Who did you see live on stage? What's your top 3 and worst 3? And why? Who would you like to see?
I saw:
Eminem
Xzibit (2)
Nas
Alkaholiks
Lords of the underground
Paris
Jeru The Damaja
Beatnuts
Snoop Dogg (w/ Daz & Kurupt)
The Game
Redman
Method Man
Wu-Tang Clan
DITC (Lord Finesse, Diamond D, AG & OC: together & solo)
EPMD
Erick Sermon

Top 3
Snoop Dogg (really cool & warm performance, this guy really has charisma)
Nas (all the classics)
DITC (legends together)

Worst 3
The Game (total lack of enthousiam, walked of the stage in the middle of the last song & finished the song behind the curtains)
Wu-Tang (no ODB rip, but also no Ghostface, Method man & RZA. Cappadonna, Killah Priest or other wu-brethen did not fill in their spot)
Beatnuts (Pshyco Less was too drunk/high)

Like to see:
Def Squad
Beastie Boys
Ludacris

The Game - was pretty good but eventually got too fucked up off Goose, did too much of other artists' songs but overall was good on stage when doing his own shit
Nipsey Hussle - got the crowd hyped, I gave him dap, his set was dope
Jay Rock & K-Dot (twice) - they were great at Toad's place back in '09 and also pretty good just a few weeks ago when I seen them at Webster
Glasses Malone - he claimed his voice/throat was fucked up a bit so he didn't rap all that much and only did a few songs, but he wasn't bad and I also met dude after
E-40 - did too much off My Ghetto Report Card, other than that his performance was nice
Tech N9ne & Strange Music - all of them killed it, most energetic dudes I've seen on stage
Method Man & Redman - probably the best overall show I went to, everything they did was dope and energy was never lost
Ghostface - killed it too but he didn't have too long of a set
Raekwon - more of a laid pack performer but it was a dope show, did a mix of old and new that was a perfect balance
Sean Price - did mostly freestyles in his short set
Kanye West - he was pretty good, better than expected... good song choice
Lupe Fiasco - wrecked it, also met dude before the show... cool peoples
N.E.R.D. - not my type of music really but they were pretty live, got the stadium going
Rihanna - she was hot

I'd love to see Devin, Andre Nickatina, Wiz Khalifa, and maybe Snoop live... I've heard his shows are dope cuz he does all old shit

devin the dude a few times-always pretty cool
nickatina too many fuckin times-from really hyped up to not giving a fuck and rapping over a burned cd of his songs
snoop with daz and kurupt-this concert was the shit, it was at a real small venue and he did mostly old songs. he was hyped
brotha lynch hung twice-drunk as fuck both times and kinda freestyling parts of his songs. good shit though
tech nine twice-great performer but not a big fan of his music
bone thugs-fuckin retarded. these guys should not be doing concerts

all i can think of right now

Good topic.... 8)

Fugees
Cypress Hill
Busta Rhymes
LL Cool J
Puff Daddy, Mase, Lil Kim
Method Man & Redman
Ghostface
DMX
Jay-Z
Kid Cudi
Wu Tang Clan
Snoop Dogg with DPG
Ludacris
Ja Rule
Junior MAFIA
Kanye West
Lupe Fiasco
Naughty by Nature
The Roots

Best:
Method Man & Redman - They know how to put on a show. So much energy.
Snoop with DPG - Was in a small venue with a live band, was 10 feet from the stage. Show was off the hook.
Naughty by Nature -
Jay-Z - Blueprint tour in a small venue with live band. Amazing show.

Worst:
Kanye West - Like his music, but wasn't feelin his live show. Maybe I caught him on an off night, or cause it was outdoors and the audio wasn't that good.

Want to see:
Dr. Dre
Eminem

Public Enemy - few weeks ago on their tour for 20th anniversary of Fear of Black Planet, dope show, played for more than 2 hours with live band, but the sound was fucked up
Slim Thug
DJ Premier - kinda dissapointing, not great DJ on live show, but maybe it's because he played on big stage on summer festival
Slaughterhouse - Joell signed my CD and Crooked I did live freestyle with my BWS shirt ;D
Xzibit
Tash
Ice Cube
Game (with BWS) - going to see him again next week
Wu-Tang Clan - my first hip-hop concert, and the worst, U-God, Capadonna, Streetlife didn't come, Method Man missed the flight and GZA was high or drunk as fuck
Rock The Bells EU (Pharo Monch, De La Soul, Pharcyde, Scratch + Supernatural, Nas, EPMD) - De La Soul show was the best, but Pharo and Nas were great as well, Pharcyde killed it with My Prerogative dance
Black Violin - support for Wu-Tang but were actually better

non hip-hop: Marcus Miller - great jazz guitarist, but I almost fell asleep, location was bad
some rock/metal groups

want to see: Eminem, Jay-Z, Kanye West, Alicia Keys (I'm stupid for not going on her show two years ago), The Roots, Rakim...

kinda limited by nobody coming to scotland that often...im sure there's some i forgot, but off the top ive seen:

Jurassic 5
Talib Kweli & Mos Def
Little Brother/Foreign Exchange
The Roots
50 Cent
Kanye
Jay-Z (twice)
Eminem & D-12
Chamillionaire
Pete Rock (DJ Set)

Talib Kweli and Little Brother were my favourites out that list...maybe to do with them being in more intimate venues...Jay-Z does put on a good show too, and The Roots were pretty ill also
