 Another thing that the thread starter forgot is that every country(pretty much) in the world has their own hip hop scene/local acts that the kids grow up on now and they talk about stuff that people outside of America can more so relate to.
 Plus alot of the people that were into westcoast/gangsta rap in the 90's grew out of it.
