Nas - God's Son
_That_Cracka_J:
Nas – God’s Son
1. Get down…Automatically reminiscent of Ice T’s “You played yourself”, using the sample of ‘The Boss’. Nas flows like water over the smooth track telling a story. 4.5/5
2. The cross…Dope production by Eminem—it matches up well to Nas’ flow and delivery. Great hook. 5/5
3. Made you look…Nas lays down some great verses, but the beat is terrible. It would be a hell of a lot better if the beat were different. 3/5
4. Last real nigga alive…Tight slow production. Nas tells a summarization of his come-up into the rap game. He takes shots and give props. 4.5/5
5. Zone out…The production sounds like it’s being played backwards. This is pretty much a Bravehearts track, with Nas laying down minimal vocals. The Bravehearts do not bring much to the table here. 1.5/5
6. Hey Nas…Fairly simple production opens the track up and Nas begins to tell a story of a woman and later expands to what he looks for in a soul mate. Kelis sounds great on the hook. 4/5
7. I can…Another basic beat but what makes it come alive is the melodic piano. Nas spits 3 great verses in this inspirational track, mainly aimed at children. The children’s vocals are a nice touch to the chorus. 4.5/5
8. Book of rhymes…This is a unique concept of a song. Nas is thumbing through some of his old rhymes while in the studio and stops in the middle of them and starts with another. Beat fits well. 4/5
9. Thugz mansion…This song does not sound right at all. Nas and Pac put down some dope lyrics, but it almost sounds like a country song. A+ for the vocals, but the acoustic version is a skipper. 2/5
10. Mastermind…Smooth production. Nas puts together a nice mafiaoso track. 4/5
11. Warrior song…The production by Alicia Keys is a bit bland, put Nas’ vocals sound great mixed with it. Alicia’s hook is A+. 4/5
12. Revolutionary warfare…Beat has an uptempo/happy feel to it. Nas and Lake sound good together trading verses back and forth on the last verse. 4/5
13. Dance…A heartfelt track dedicated to Nas’ mother. Two powerful verses. Great chorus. 5/5
14. Heaven…Chorus is a bit drawn out, but it still sounds good. Nas sounds great on the mic even though his flow is very different from his regular style. A good message about material things vs. tangible objects. 4/5
OVERALL…4/5
Very consistent album. The entire CD gives off an overall positive vibe, which is nice for a change with much of what comes out today. Nas’ most personal album to date, with a wide range of subject matter.
