Rant number 1: Why the fuck is every bowl now a company. Growing up, there was 22 bowls, which was a lot, now there are 35. Okay, bowls are big money, everyone wants a piece of the pie, I get it. But seriously, in 1998, the last year I was in high school, bowls were called the Humanitarian Bowl, the Sun Bowl, the Independence Bowl and so on. I mean because of the Dotcom bubble, you started to see the Insight.com Bowl and the MicronPC Bowl, but the other 20 bowls actually had real names. Now every single game has a corporate name in it, and most all of them, except the truly traditional bowls, all are just named after a company. The Citrus Bowl is now the Capital One Bowl, the Peach Bowl is now the Chick-fil-A Bowl and the Aloha Bowl in Hawaii is now the Sheraton Hawaiʻi Bowl. I mean seriously, WFT, it still can't be the Citrus Bowl presented by Capital One, does Capital One have to take over the whole bowl.Rant 2: Why are there still Bowls being played between New Years and the BCS Bowl. I mean you are not more important than the Rose Bowl, the Orange Bowl or the Sugar Bowl. I'll let the Cotton Bowl pass since it's the last of the big 4 not in the BCS, though they are trying hard to get in when 2015 comes. But I don't need a GoDaddy.com Bowl or a BBVA Compass Bowl or a Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl. These bowls need to get lost in between Christmas and New Years like the rest of the other 30 bowls, and leave New Years Day to the Big 4 bowls and the BCS. (since the Cotton Bowl is not BCS and the Fiesta Bowl is BCS but not part of the Big 4.) If you want the BCS Bowl later then that's fine. But seriously, no bowl should come after New Years except the BCS Bowl, that's it, no one is bigger than the Rose Bowl, the Orange Bowl, the Cotton Bowl, the Sugar Bowl, and I guess the Fiesta Bowl (that pains me).
I am watching ESPN and seeing commercials to watch these bowl games still going on. Okay, I don't think of myself as a traditionalist. In fact, I am a playoff person, I think every conference should have a chance at the national title and that is possible in a 16 team playoff. But if you are going to have a Bowl season, you have to do it right.Rant number 1: Why the fuck is every bowl now a company. Growing up, there was 22 bowls, which was a lot, now there are 35. This is all that truly bothers me right now.
