I2G chilled with One-2 for a exclusive interview. We discuss in depth his new EP History & Destiny coming out this year, his thoughts on the west coast and much more so check it out.
Illuminati 2G is here with One-2 how’s it going man?
It’s going good how you doing?
Good. Tell me a little bit about your double EP project called History & Destiny.
The reason why I made it a double disc EP because it is 2 different types of music that we are portraying. Basically History, which is disc one, has more of a hip hop sound and more of the shit people are used to hearing from me.
Heavy beats, punchlines and metaphors, more of a hip hop sound. Where as disc two, which is Destiny, has more of a futuristic, more of a house infused, retro sound. More of a type of music that people can dance to and party.
That is the theme of the EP, History where hip hop has been, and where I have been in life, and Destiny which portrays more of the future and where hip hop is going towards. Each disc has 6 tracks, 12 tracks in total.
This their any other details that you can give about the EP? Producers, guest appearances?
Production is all Komplex, he did the whole project. Because I know how talented he is and I feel like it is time for the world to see his talent. I told him when we started this project to just come through with the heat and he delivered 12 bangers. I just wanted the world to see his talent and as far as guest appearances, on History, pretty much every song has a guest appearance.
It ranges from Chace Infinite from Self Scientific, Jayo Felony, Knoc-Turn’al, Crooked I, Horse Shoe Gang. I got this group from northern California on there named Project Lionheart, they are on the title track.
On the Destiny cd, I don’t have as many guest appearances but I got K-Young on one track called Venom. I got Kobe on there, who was on Eminem’s last album, he is a on a song called In The Zone. I also have a female singer, Tina Jones, she is on there as well.
I have alot of different guest appearances but the production is all Komplex.
Do you have any videos or singles set to drop from the project?
Yeah we got this track called Coast Guard with the Horse Shoe Gang. It’s basically the New West or it’s west coast classic shit. The video is coming out and it is directed by Chris Nelson out of Utah and he shot videos for myself, Crooked I and Knoc-Turn’al.
We shot the Coast Guard video a couple weeks ago and we shot it in Hollywood and Long Beach. That will be the first single that comes out and we are probably going to shoot some videos for the title track Destiny and possibly Venom with K-Young or a track that I am potentially thinking of making the single which is called Lifestyles Of LA.
So we have a couple videos that are set to come out before the project is set to drop.
Do you have a release date for it and is it just a I-Tunes release or will there be hard copies?
We don’t have a exact date right now and it has been getting pushed back for a while now. The music is ready and has been done for a while now, it is just that we are trying to get the business side done correctly.
What we are going to do is have it on I-Tunes and have physical copies and we are looking to get nationwide distribution for it. Hopefully it will come out sometime towards the end of January.
I figure it is better to start the year off with a project becuase it is really good material. It is possibly the best material I have put out to date. This is not like the usual mixtapes that I do, rapping over other peoples beats, this is 100% all original music from Komplex.
That is why we want to make sure that everything is on point when it comes out as far as distribution and promotion.
So what’s next for you after the EP drops for 2011?
I am always working on potential album cuts and I am constantly recording. So when a certain track comes out that is really hot, I feel like it embodies me as a artist then I want to keep that and I have a library of cuts like that for albums.
As far as for 2011, what is going to happen is once this EP drops, I have been talking to Komplex about doing a experimental project. We are thinking about maybe doing some crossover and do some Dubstep.
It is really big in the UK and in Europe and we are going to do a project with that just to see how people will react to it because for me personally I like to experiment and try new things. It has not really caught on in the states and I want to give it a shot and if it does, I will be one of the originators because I am a trendsetter.
I am going to make the entire project in Dubstep and it will be all double time flow. I know my fans enjoy that and it is going to be a online project and we are probably not going to print physical copies.
I don’t have a title for it yet and have not started it but we are plotting on it right now. So that will come most likely after the EP and then after that we are going to get back to the traditional formula.
I will probably release another mixtape but I am working on a album and I am pushing towards getting a album out late 2011 or early 2012. 2012 being 12 that is my number and I think it is a good year to release a album and hopefully by then I will be more established and I will be set and have all the angles as far as marketing and promotion and distribution. So when we release a album, we can release it worldwide.
Because it is time for people to hear what we got. All this music has alot of potential and we are planning alot of new moves that we are going to make and 2011 is going to hopefully be a big year for One-2.
What are your thoughts on west coast hip hop last year in 2010?
2010 was a good year for me. I have been pretty productive, I released Kabob & Vodka, a mixtape hosted by DJ Vick One and I have been working on this EP. I have been active and there is alot more that I want to do and in 2011 I am going to be working alot harder and putting out alot more music.
I feel like I have so much to say and it is about time that I get my voice out. As far as west coast hip hop, I don’t know I feel like it is on a standstill lately and there are not many new artists coming out of the west.
It is always the same cats that have been there for 2 decades now. I feel like it is a pity that alot of those established artists that are in the mainstream are not reaching down to artists that are just coming out.
They don’t want to seem to help out or anything and you look at any other coast and artists from there, they are always bringing out new artists. For example Jay-Z signed J Cole, young talent and he takes the initative to put them out.
He realizes by him putting out new artists, he gets recognition and that is something that rappers on the west don’t seem to realize. I’m from the west coast and I love it and I think we can organize and unite and hit the industry harder then what we are doing right now. I feel like right now we are at a standstill and what I want to do is globalize west coast hip hop.
This is where I am from, but my music is not only limited to west coast. It has a universal sound and it appeals to people from all over. I have fans writing me letters from Africa and Mongolia telling me that they enjoy my music and it helps them with their life. I know for a fact I have ears all around the world listening and I want to put out a new west coast sound.
Myself, Crooked I, Horse Shoe Gang, that is what we are all working on. We are trying to take it a step further than just the traditional west coast shit that you are hearing. I feel like music is always evolving and changing and you got to keep up with music.
I feel like I have what it takes and I have that knowledge of what direction music is moving towards and moving in sync with music. It is time for these new west artists to have their music heard. 2011 hopefully we will be able to get ourselves on the map.
Absolutely that’s real talk. Do you have any upcoming shows or tour dates?
Right now no but I am always doing shows out here in Hollywood. I try to do at least one show a month and I should definitely be doing more but I have alot of stuff I am dealing with in my personal life that I am also trying to balance with my music career. But I will keep people updated with any shows that I have coming up.
Once the EP drops, we will have alot of shows coming up to promote it.

Alright that is all the questions I have for you. Appreciate you getting down for the interview. Is there any last words or shoutouts you want to get out there to the people?
I just want to tell everyone to stay tuned and the EP is coming soon. To all my fans I am sorry for the delay and we are going to hit them hard. Expect alot of new, fresh shit from One-2 in 2011. I am gonna give it my all and we gonna expand baby!
