The Celtics would need Perkins to match up against teams with a big front court, like the Lakers.
What many people think the trade means, is that the Celtics arent preparing for the Lakers. They are preparing for the Spurs. They will need players who can get to the perimeter and defend three point shooters. Not just bigmen to guard the paint.

LMAO...keep dreaming. if anything, they wanted a perimeter defender to back up pierce for when the heat come around, sorta like they had with posey in their championship year...and perhaps someone who could guard odom, as no one on boston was capable of matching up with him prior to this trade.

Boston is likely to sign Murphy, can stretch the floor with his shooting , a good rebounder but a horrible defender ...

plus Rondo will own Rose

This is just what some others had said. The Celtics matched up BETTER with the Lakers BEFORE trading away Perkins. They would need him against the Laker bigs. Against the Spurs, and yeah the Heat too...they will need more perimeter defenders. They didnt need to change much of anything to beat the Heat IMO though.
