I was thinking the same thing as bad ass, the scene in American History X.  I had no idea what hte movie would be about, and man, I was friekin' SHOCKED when I saw that part, I was just stunned.

it would have been even more nasty, if they woud have the camera close and still move away as he does what he does

I think they were just trying to imply viciousness without having to even show it.

in the godfather II when Michael has his brother killed while fishing and saying a hail mary

in Casino where they're tourturingthat dude and squeezing his head in that thing, and his eyes start to bulge out

Goodfellas- when they have that guy in the trunk and he's not dead and Diniro and Joe Pesci stab/shoot the shit out of him, then burry him and 9 months later they got to dig him up and they're all making ray Liota sick buy talking about his Mom's cooking,lol funny but sick

The Exosict-when the young priest walks back into the room and the old preist is dead and then the boxer priest beats the shit outta the girl/devil and has the devil go into him and then he dies like that one director that she killed


Carrie-when she's taking a shower in the opening seen and has her period and freaks out and is all wiping that shit on everyone


Casino-when that kid tells joe pecsi to go fuck himself then he lets it go, but then Diniro is all "woo you gonna let him talk to you like that" and then pecsi gets all pissed and pops the fuck outta the kid

Godfather III-the cousins have a love scene

Yeah, that was kinda disturbing when he shot his brother in the boat.  (had him shot).  Not gory or anything, but emotional (i thought).  The way they had all intentionally played up the kid playing with his uncle, then had him killed by his own brother, you were just torn... like I felt horrible for the kid, he wanted to go on the boat, and had no idea what was going down, he didn't like his dad; his dad shot HIS OWN BROTHER, then you think what is he going to go through, you know it's gonna ruin his life, his conscience will get to him.  It was just incredibly powerful, that one scene.
