Grandmaster Flash & Furious Five are definitely one of the most important because Melle Mel was a huge influence on Rakim,
Big Daddy Kane, Kool G Rap, and those guys developed most of the advanced techniques of MCing...
Melle Mel laid the foundation of what being a competent MC was all about.
And Grandmaster Flash did so much for DJing as well, so that group is pretty much like the catalyst for a lot of what came after.

Also, if we're counting Juice Crew as a group, then they'd be up there as well, because Big Daddy Kane and Kool G Rap
were so influential on everyone who came after in terms of technical skill and also in what they were rapping about,
and Marley Marl is one of the most influential producers as well.


I'd put it as -

But if there wasn't no Run-DMC, then perhaps there wouldn't of been H.B.O. - an East Coast group that rejected 'Boyz N Tha Hood' which set off Eazy-E and NWA.
