Why do some artists put albums out and others don't?

Why do some artist put out a a bunch of free mixtapes, throw free tracks out left and right and then still take forever to put out an album (or never do)? The reason why I was thinking about this is because no one was really checking for B.G. Knoccout, he hadn't been dropping tracks or mixtapes like other artist; he had been pretty quiet then out of nowhere he put out an album with some good production that is being sold both in mp3 and cd format. So I was wondering why other artist like, for example, Crooked I or Bishop Lamont (don't have anything agains them but they're good examples) don't have a couple albums out by now? Both have put out a gang of songs, whether it be on mixtapes or individual songs and both have created big enough buzzes for themselves (Bishop was signed and even working along side Dre for a good while) to the point that if they were to drop an album independenty it could be successful.

So why don't they release an album while other artist that don't have nowhere near the buzz they have release albums and even hard copies of them? Is it because they don't want to put out an album independently and are waiting for a big break on a major label to blow up? Is it because it would cost too much to do it on their own or because they wouldn't make enough money independently? It's not like someone like Crooked or Bishop would have trouble getting some good production for their albums, there are a lot of producers out there coming up that would give them beats just as long as they got credit for their work, so beats aren't a problem. If artist with little to no buzz can do it why can't they or other artists like them that have fans that have been waiting for an album?

At some point though you'd think they'd just release their own album and stop waiting. The buzz eventually starts going away and people move onto newer artists. For example Bishop, I don't think his buzz will ever be as big as when he was working with Dre (I might be wrong), no one snatched him up after he parted ways with aftermath. So how much longer can you wait? If you're going to be dropping mixtape, after mixtape, after mixtape for free you might as well put an album together and sell that shit yourself; you could still eventually get a major label deal.

We all have dreams. Their dream is to be big and in the mainstream, even though everyone else knows it will never happen.

Maybe they are worried if they release an album,   and it only sells 10 copies,  then that will be on there resume, and they wont be able to do there club shows anymore cause they have that on there resume......

maybe that is why releasing freestyles is better.

Or maybe the music business is different for every artist and some find the right situation while others battle the politics. It's not like being on an indy label means you can put out whatever the fuck you want. Long as there is money tied up in that studio time and distribution, people are going to have a say. I don't think all these artists are so unrealistic as to think they are all gonna be the next Eminem or do Lil Wayne numbers or end up on Aftermath eventually but they all want to be positioned in the best possible situation they can be. Everybody wants to make an impact. If an artist doesn't want that, he can stay funneling free music to people for the rest of his career.

I think funneling free music is the best way to go,   cause that way I dont have to pay as much money or any money to hear the latest slang and jibe that the streets is buzzing with.
