just my thoughts on rap

i was having a debate on rap with some girl on the internet (i know it's pointless) and i told her that i pretty much listen to DJ Quik lately because his crew and him are 97.9 times on some real shit. anyways, she said to me "if this DJ Quik guy is so good, why haven't i heard of him but i've heard of Nelly and Ja Rule?"
i was offended that she grouped those names together so i told her like this... because you're one of those stupid bitches that throw away $16 for some gay ass dude that's cd subject matter is something like "i have all this money, rolexs, and jewelry so buy my cd and i'll tell you all about it on every one of my songs"
the majority of rap isn't contraversial anymore. (by that i mean thought provoking not that i fucked 2 girls with out a condom and went out and smoked some cops stuff) radio stations and record companies have found a cheap way to sell rap to everyone from 40 year old white italian ladies down to 6 year old black kids. this is hip pop which leads to the decline of another type of rap....
gangsta rap(pers) are dying out because the younger people are being brought up in the hip pop fan base and the ones that listened to it back in the 90's are older now...not too many of us can relate to shooting up a supermarket full of people while doing a crack sale. to be honest with you, that music was entertaining to me back then but it's really not anymore.
so while these are the two main flavors of rap right now. one, thats quickly becoming an epidemic while the other is seen as the hay day of rap, the rap that never was in the lime light, well more honestly, never widely excepted was the thought provoking rap.
so as fans of this genre we're stuck with three choices, sell-out, die-out or go unheard. think of that next time you're in a supermarket and some little white girl knows all the words to some ja rule song, sit back and reminisce the next time you look over when you're at a stop sign and you see some young thugs bumping that gangsta shit, or just chill in your house, drink beers, play video games, and watch your friends ask "who are you listening to? oh ok. shut up and pick your play asshole."

Man i agree wit you on what you said but the
reason why gangsta rap is dying is not just because
younger people are being brought up listening to
hip pop but also the labels are not promoting
gangsta rappers like they are wit pop

You should have told that girl the reason she hasn’t heard DJ Quik is because she is not a real hip hop fan. Explain to her that REAL fans of the categorie recognise DJ Quik and place him before Nelly or Ja Rule. Also add in a bit saying that Nelly & Ja Rule?? Who they? There pop stars not hip hop stars. Pop.
Gangsta rap aint dying out. Theres always been suckas being played and pimped. Vanilla Ice, NWA, shit list goes on, yes NWA weren’t as “gangsta” as y’all thought. Easy E was probably the only one worthy of that title. Don’t know if any y’all would have saw that movie with Chris Rock in it about the rap group – now that’s NWA. Gangsta rap never really tookover. Deathrow isn’t gangsta rap, they used the media to fuel their suspisions and acusations about it – most were just street folks out the hood and got their ass kicked into line once they signed to the label. It aint no secret. However they were good at playin the media to their advantage. They got respect tho – cause they talked bout real issues ones that real niggaz couldn’t talk about or get the chance to. That’s why Nelly will never be respected. Look at his single “Dilema”, “Hot in Herre” that faggot don’t support his colour, the ideot cant even speak, he aint black, hes white.

I think the reason she ain't heard of DJ Quik is because he doesn't cater to the mainstream audience. He doesn't make songs to try and sell records, he makes songs that he likes. And face it, while we like his stuff, the majority of people DON'T. That's why he doesn't sell. I mean, we think this stuff is great, but most people don't think it's very good at all, or they'd buy it more often. Most people don't like Quik, Snoop, Daz, etc. At least Bay Area has an excuse, because nobody can get there stuff, LOL.
