Is Pop music the only genre that NEEDS to sell records?

I'm just thinking about how most artists make their living doing shows and investing (or going broke).  And pop music seems to be the only type of music that if you're not sellin then you DONT have a career.

So I guess Hip Hop and every other type of music is saved, even Pop...  it's a good life to be living
