First off, I believe the above poster is fan made. Whether or not it is, I really like it. The UFC’s posters are generally shit and they should just depend on fans to make a ton of cool posters. I know that would likely be a logistical nightmare, but fuck it. That’s right, I say fuck it.
In regards to today’s free UFC 138 card, I kinda like it. I’m a huge MMA dork and generally don’t care who is fighting, so that’s a good thing. Some of these fights are pretty fun like Leben vs. Munoz and Pickett vs. Barao, while it will be good to see Thiago Alves back in action. Perosh vs. Diabate will also be a big styles clash that could end up being a great fight.
Okay, in regards to watching the event: the Facebook fights begin right now. Like, immediately. 1:40 PM EST/12:40 PM CST, so get ready to enjoy those. The main event starts at 4:00 PM EST/3:00 PM CST, but it will air on tape delay in the U.S. at 8:00 PM EST/7:00 PM CST. Kinda lame, since it would be nice to view it life, but I guess that’s just the hand we’ve been dealt. FREE UFC! Just enjoy it!
Middleweight: Chris Leben (22-7) vs. Mark Munoz (11-2)
Bantamweight: Brad Pickett (20-5) vs. Renan Barao (26-1, 1 NC)
Welterweight: Thiago Alves (18-8) vs. Papy Abedi (8-0)
Lightweight: Terry Etim (14-3) vs. Edward Faaloloto (2-2)
Light Heavyweight: Anthony Perosh (11-6) vs. Cyrille Diabate (17-7-1)
Featherweight: Michihiro Omigawa (12-10-1) vs. Jason Young (8-4)
Welterweight: Justin Edwards (7-1) vs. John Maguire (16-3)
Bantamweight: Chris Cariaso (11-3) vs. Vaughan Lee (11-6-1)
Heavyweight: Philip De Fries (7-0, 1 NC) vs. Rob Broughton (15-6-1)
Welterweight: Chris Cope (5-1) vs. Che Mills (13-4, 1 NC)

I usually don’t preface the results with any statements, but I must say that I really enjoyed this card yesterday. The five Facebook fights were enjoyable (for the most part) and the main card was absolutely fantastic and a ton of fun with five finishes. MMA is great regardless of who is fighting – that is, unless you’re ProElite. YIKES!
Middleweight: Mark Munoz d. Chris Leben (TKO – Round 2, 5:00)
This fight was basically everything we expected. Mark Munoz tried to grind out Leben while the fighters weren’t beating the hell out of each other. This was ten minutes of excitement and a supremely fun main event. Had this have been on pay-per-view, this would have made for an absolutely phenomenal co-main event. In the end, Munoz opened up a bad cut around Leben’s left eye that prevented the Hawaiian from seeing. Doctors made the absolute right call by stopping the fight.
My favorite part of the fight was after the second round, Leben was complaining to his corner about not being able to see. Jacob Duran, known affectionately and accurately as Stitch, calmly looks at the cut and says, “Chris, I can fix it.” I wish he would have gotten the fucking chance because Stitch pumped me up with that. That’s a man who knows that he’s the shit ready to get to work and fix a fucking cut.
From here, Munoz is definitely closer to title contention. I think I had him a bit underrated after the close win over Demian Maia, but now he should shoot up quite a bit. A fight with the Bisping/Mayhem winner could be good, maybe even Yushin Okami for an even bigger step up.
From here, Chris Leben will drink.
Bantamweight: Renan Barao d. Brad Pickett (Submission – Round 1, 4:09)
This was pretty fantastic. These little guys traded crazy shots, except that Pickett doesn’t really have the power of Renan Barao. Pickett was dropped and submitted late in the first, establishing Barao as a very scary fighter at bantamweight. There’s a lot of great talent toward the top of 135 pounds that they could match up with Barao like Demetrious Johnson or Scott Jorgensen, so I’m anxious to see his next fight.
Welterweight: Thiago Alves d. Papy Abedi (Submission – Round 1, 3:32)
The exchanges on the feet between Alves and Abedi were fun. Then Alves hurt Abedi and submitted him. Really, it was as easy as that. Not a lot of people gave Abedy a chance in this one, but he had a fun entrance and put on a good, albeit brief performance. Alves’ future is unclear given how close he was from missing weight in this contest. Middleweight could be a potential home, but we’ll have to wait and see what decision is made.
Lightweight: Terry Etim d. Edward Faaloloto (Submission – Round 1, 0:17)
If nothing else, this fight proved that Edward Faaloloto should be nowhere near the UFC. Terry Etim should not beat anybody in 17 seconds, so Faaloloto is gone. Etim is a great submission artist, but this was just too much. Dana revealed in the post fight press conferences that Etim’s next fight is already scheduled, but wanted to wait for Joe Silva to talk with Etim first. What could it be!?
Light Heavyweight: Anthony Perosh d. Cyrille Diabate (Submission – Round 2, 3:09)
I was thrilled to see Perosh take the win, if only because MMA needs more fighters nicknamed “Hippo.” Diabate didn’t get much of a chance to show off his kickboxing since Perosh was able to drag him to the mat and keep him there. Perosh spent the majority of the second round on top and was able to sink in a rear naked choke for the victory.
Featherweight: Michihiro Omigawa d. Jason Young (Unanimous Decision)
Welterweight: John Maguire d. Justin Edwards (Unanimous Decision)
Bantamweight: Chris Cariaso d. Vaughan Lee (Split Decision)
Heavyweight: Philip De Fries d. Rob Broughton (Unanimous Decision)
Welterweight: Che Mills d. Chris Cope (TKO – Round 1, 0:40)

I love how everyone was complaining that this card existed (even though it was free) and it ends up shitting on all the recent cards.

Also Justin Edwards is getting annoying. In both this and his last fight he has gone continuously for guillotines and every time its a mistake that leaves him in a bad position. He never gets them, so he needs to stop going for them.

Cope got violated. It must fucking suck to train your ass off 8-12 weeks and almost kill yourself cutting weight only to get smashed on in 17 seconds without throwing any real offense.
