Favorite hip hop albums this year?
« on: November 18, 2011, 09:30:09 PM »
For whatever reason I've been listening to a lot of different genres and haven't really been checking for new rap/hip hop albums this year. What would you guys recommend?(mainstream or underground).

Hey man, I don't know what type of shit you bump, but I'll give ya a variety to check

Statik Selektah- Population Control (Play the Game is a dope song on there)

Big KRIT- Return of 4eva (this dude is next...90's sound, conscious at times but far from preachy)

Kendrick Lamar- Section 80 (Ronald Reagan Era, Hiipower)

Kanye and Jay- Watch the Throne (this one was actually a grower for me; they do a lot of that old school back and forth rhyming on it which is mad dope---Murder to Excellence one of the songs of the year)

J Cole- Sideline Story (dope album but maybe too many songs about the ladies...still worth a check, its good front to back)

Ever listened to the knux? Try their album eraser. It's almost indie rock/hip hop/pop.

Haven't really bought or even listened to many albums that have come out this year. The ones I bought were ok but not really spectacular, bought Snoop,Quik, Kendrick, and Devin albums maybe some others.  Been busy with mixtapes, especially from Curren$y and Jeezy. Listened to Big KRIT earlier in the year and I still love his beats but I'm not a fan of his raps.

In terms of solid albums you can listen to from front to back, I would second both the Bumpy Knuckles and Elzhi tapes.  Watch the Throne was like that, too.

Peace!
