The Marlins have made the first big splash of the Winter Meetings as they have agreed to a six-year, $106MM deal with Jose Reyes, pending a physical, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports (via Twitter). The deal does not include a no-trade clause, Rosenthal adds (via Twitter).

Shortly after the news of the offer hit the press, Mets GM Sandy Alderson quickly conceded to reporters that the Mets would not be able to compete, tweets Adam Rubin of ESPNNewYork.com. The Mets were willing to go to a five-year deal for $75-85MM with an option for a sixth year to take the deal over $100MM, but felt that they could not push their offer any further, according to Joel Sherman of the New York Post (via Twitter).

Love Reyes, but I don't think I would ever make that much a commitment to a speed/contact guy as opposed to an RBI producer (ala Ichiro Suzkuki). Still, he can be an extremely valuable piece if they get some more bats around him.

Big move. Heard Albert says if he can't get a deal with with St. Louis, he wants in Miami.

Damn, that's easily another 100 mill and then some. Where's all this money coming from? lol the Marlins have shit attendance even when they're a good team.
