Yep.. I remember they even had a retirement party for Too Short.  And I was bumpin "Gettin It" summer of 96 and it was really emotional like a Swan song.  Rhyme and Reason documentary had footage of the retirement party talking about how it was a great landmark for hip-hop, that hip-hop had now been around long enough that rappers could retire
