It's clearly been a long time since either of you two have seen Scarface.

Action flick? Just entertaining because Tony is a badass? LOL

It's a long movie with a few short (albeit iconic) action scenes. A masterpiece in just pure cinematography. The way it has been filmed and edited is... soothing. Not to mention the best soundtrack ever, Moroder is a genius. And the story is genius too, it shows how banks, cops, lawyers, and Miami business' in general knowingly and willingly benefited the most from the drug trade - and got off scott free while Tony, well we know what happened to him. Just like in real life. In fact real life is so often so close to Scarface you sometimes have to wonder if it's life imitating art or vice versa (for both sides of the law).

Man I love that movie.

Have Godfather 2 now but haven't watched it yet.

It simply doesn't have the depth that film like Godfather 1 or 2 have. If the thread said Scarface or Godfather 3 we may have a debate. Is Scarface beter than comparable films of it's type like American Gangster? sure why not. The way you described why Scarface is good says it all. It, the film, days t all, very heavy handedly. It's not Paul Haggis Crash bad, but it's not Godfather. It's not the big things in GF2 that make it great, like Michael having Fredo killed, it's the little things in GF 2 like Hyman Roth asking for a smaller piece of cake, or Frank Pentangeli seeing his brother in the courtroom.

well, well
i shouldve known, that a grouchy film-purist would end up in here sooner or later.
i made the poll, cause both of the movies are hailed by the conventional hiphop-head. no need to over-analyze it

but maybe i shouldve compared "Scarface"  to somethin like "King of New York" or "New Jack City", yes .. my bad  ;)

I'll take Scarface over those two films easy, but this isn't the grouchy purist in me.

It's like in Rap terms what's the better song Gin N Juice or Dear Mama?

There will be people on both sides of that argument, but the ones on the Dear Mama side will say Gin N juice is a great track but it doesn't have the real emotion of Dear Mama and can't be in the discussion, while The Gin and Juice side won't really have a reason.

You can substitute Gin N Juice with Murda Was The Case if you want. Either way nothing Snoop's ever done can touch Dear Mama.

new jack city?  really? it had its moments but still, i mean i would assume ud mention movies like menace or hoodlum, but those aren't that much of an improvement either, still doesnt step.

if you really compare the likes of scarface, godfather, good fellas, casino, to black cinema there really isn't any competition.

black cinema is very, very, very corny. i love it, don't get me wrong and i love all my child hood classics. but cmon it doesnt even touch the level where the movies i mentioned above. not artistically, realistically, the depth of the characters and their tendencies and the settings and atmosphere.

not even close.
