Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola has confirmed that he will be leaving the Blaugrana at the end of the current 2011/2012 season. Guardiola, the most successful coach in Barcelona history, parts company with FCB after winning 13 trophies out of 16 ( 13 may become 14 if Barcelona win their upcoming Copa del Rey final against Athletic Bilbao) in his four season long stint with the club.

The 38 year old Guardiola took over as Barca manager in the summer of 2008 and immediately lead them to a league, Cup and Champions League treble. In his four years at the club, Barca have won the Champions League on two occasions and have reached the semifinals all four times. He also presided over two famous 6-2 and 5-0 wins over Real Madrid and has won all possible trophies with the Blaugrana, including the Spanish Super Cup, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup.

Guardiola, a product of Barca’s famed youth system and a FCB player himself ( he was part of Johan Cryuff’s dream team), made the announcement at an afternoon press conference at the Nou Camp today after a difficult week that saw Barca lose to Real Madrid in the league and suffer a Champions League exit at the hands of Chelsea.

Barca president Sandro Rossell has confirmed that Pep’s assistant Tito Vilanova will take over the reigns for him beginning the 2012/13 season. That puts a rest to the rumours floating that the likes of Arsene Wenger, Andre Villas-Boas and Luis Enrique were in line to replace him.
If you get in a fight, and somebody yells “worldstar”. You better fight for your life.

Good riddance

Why? Guardiola's Barcelona created art and they won a lot of prizes with it. I'm somewhat saddened by the news.
