Author Topic: Appreciation - King Tee - Thy Kingdome Come (Dre, Battlecat, Quik, Fredwreck)  (Read 1102 times)

I downloaded this and listened to it in full - it's actually a lot better than I expected, give or take a couple of tracks.  You can see why Biggie stated that King T was his favourite rapper.
I'm not sure if it would have sold that well had it been released because it doesn't seem to have a commercial draw, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.
It's also interesting to hear these Dr. Dre beats for the first time, a lot of them sound like they could have been used for his Chronic II album.

I remember HEAVILY anticipating this album in the Summer of 98'.  No Limit had taken over rap music and I was desperate for Dr. Dre to comeback and change the game once more.  This album was being promoted all summer long in 1998.  I remember seeing the video on BET for "Got It Locked", shit sounded dope, and I had no doubts the album would be a West Coast classic.

King Tee and Dr. Dre were even on RapCity with Leslie (that thickass, fine woman that used to host RapCity when Jo Clair wasn't there), they were out at Dre's mansion on his golf course.  I still remember Dre hitting a bad shot and saying something like, "Golf became a wack game for me when I realized I wasn't any good at it".  Leslie asked King Tee what he hoped to achieve with this album and he said he just wanted a gold record, something to show his kids someday to prove he did something in this game!

Then there was even a full page Ad in the Source that summer that said, King Tee, Thy Kingdome Come In Stores Now.  I remember driving up to blockbuster music to look for it and not seeing it, and I showed the Ad to the sales clerk and they told me it wasn't there and I said "it has to be here, see, the ad says IN STORES NOW, lol".

Funny shit from back in the day.   I don't really think it was because of Eminem this album wasn't released, but who knows.  I always wondered why it wasn't released, it would be a good question to ask Dre or King Tee.   See Eminem was also signed to Aftermath in the Summer of 98' and I remember at the end of that summer seeing him in the About To Blow section of Blaze Magazine.

...ahhh the good old days!

cool album.
"6 N 'Na Moe'nin" was my favorite. very cinematic. beats "Zoom Zoom" by a long shot imo
for some reason it reminds me of the movie "Natural Born Killaz" lol

I remember when I saw Got it Locked video on Yo MTV raps back in 98 and I thought it was dope as fuck! I was always on the look out for that album ever since I saw the video and I remember years later at the music store seeing it but it was on the independent label as DAZ or something like that it wasn't the turkey cover

Does anyone know which half got released, the old or new testament? Or a mix of both?
