They didn't ask him "Who would win in a 1-on-1 game between you and T-Mac?" - the reporter put out his statement saying "I always wanted to see you play Tracy McGrady." - it's not a question, it's a statement.

Now Kobe, being a cocky arrogant person he always was, replied in his typical fashion: "I played T-Mac. I cooked him. Roasted him. Wasn't even close. Ask him, he'll tell you."

He could've said: "Yeah, we played 1-on-1 and I've won." - Now, that wouldn't be as controversial as it was the way he said it tho. But I agree - he should focus on make sure the Lakers will make the Play-Offs cause if they'll blow it all up, people are gonna eat them alive and trades are gonna be made :)
