Ras kass still on the run
« on: March 06, 2003, 01:33:56 PM »
After much fanfare, Priority Records' recording artist Ras Kass has clarified his status as a fugitive from justice.

The lyricist said he is refusing to turn himself over to authorities and is currently trying to secure a release from Priority Records.

Contrary to some reports in the media, Ras insisted his flight from the law doesn't stem from fear of prison.

"The jail sh*t, that's getting sensationalized," Ras Kass told AllHipHop.com. The Golden State representative said he is evading police out of necessity in order to "be released from the f**kin' plantation [Priority]."

As was previously reported, Ras Kass did not appear for sentencing in January for a third DUI conviction. The Carson, California native would have been sentenced to the state mandatory nine months of time.

However, due to label conflicts that surfaced a month prior to his scheduled sentencing, Ras Kass stated he has been forced to take drastic action in an effort salvage his recording career.

The self-proclaimed "waterproof MC" delved further into his reasoning behind his refusal to serve his mandatory sentence - his children and a release from his contract with Priority.

The rapper divulged that he has the only copy of his anticipated opus, The Goldyn Chyld, and will not give it to his label unless they drop him.

"If [Priority] wants the album back, I'm willing to give them the album back, if they give me a release. That's all this is about," he stated. "I'll turn myself in, [but] I'm not going to jail and my children been having to suffer all this time while I been working hard, really f**king working hard."

While he has decided the conditions of his surrender, Ras Kass estimates that he will likely extend his prison bid about a year-and-a-half from nine months.

The rapper explained he is unflinching in his decision. "This is just how I feel. I'm not going to jail, then catch me if you can, just like that movie. I'm Leo Dicaprio," scoffs Ras.

He also stated that he is not taking refuge in the New York area, dispelling rumors.

"I don't really appreciate n***as blowing up the spot, but I'm not living in New York, if you do catch me, you'll catch me in Cali," Ras declared.

The entire interview with Ras Kass will appear tomorrow (March 7th) on AllHipHop.com.

Sigh...  ::)  Ras needs to knock that drunk driving shit on the head once and for all. Dude's already KILLED someone through that shit, and now he's on the third charge?

Oh, and holding the album advance ranson? Don't make me laugh - Priority know it won't sell enough to recoup recording costs  ;) - they'll probably leave him in that contract without releasing shit, just to spite him.

And running from the law? Shiiiiiiiiiit... Handle your responsibilties like a man and accept the consequences of your actions like a man. After you getting beaten up by a girl no one is impressed by the 'fugitive' act. What a self-important bitch.

Sorry for ranting y'all. I used to love Ras, and Soul On Ice is a classic, but when I read shit like this I get angry.

Ummm.. as I remember he was about 20 and involved in an accident after he got drunk as fuck and jumped behind the wheel. He fucked up at a red light and slid into another car. The other driver burned to death in their car as it was too fucked up for them to get out of, and Ras got a couple of years for vehicular manslughter. This was all before he was a known rapper.

I read an interview where he talked about it, but he tells the story on "The Evil Men Do" on Soul On Ice - maybe check Ohhla.com for the lyrics, or I could post them tomorrow if you're interested (I'm off to bed now, lol). The way he raps it in the song tries to justify it, talking about how much stress he was under and what not...  ::)  I don't know... maybe I'm being harsh... I just think it's fucking irresponsible, and for him to treat it like a game ("I'm Leo DiCaprio" WTF?! >:() pisses me off - imagine if he'd caused another death on the road and was then using the situation to get himself out of a contract that it's his own fault for signing in the first place! What do others think?

Artist: Ras Kass
Album:  Soul on Ice
Song:   The Evil That Men Do

        Intro

Psssshh, I guess niggaz don't realize a good thing til it's gone
You know what I'm sayin man?
Runnin around in these streets trickin, shit's hard man
You know?  But sometimes man
fools be bringin that shit on they god damn self

        Verse One

Nappy headed nigga stigmatism at birth
Born to a family of four and so that makes me one-fourth
of a dysfunctional home
I had a father who only stayed to see me grown
When I turned twelve he was gone
Alone, no role model
I used to watch my Granddaddy and Uncle hit the bottle
and then hit each other
Granddaddy beat Grandmother, but that's before my time
but I still see how it affected her mind
As a child I introverted, and drew pictures
While my mother prayed to Jesus reading King James scriptures
She used to take me to church so I could put money in the basket
Tell the preacher how she used to get her ass kicked
And me, I mastered the art of hatred
After pops left ran with my niggaz tryin to take shit
Petty theft, I got caught a few times, but bust it
Life is a bitch so fuck it
In eighty-one I remember the night
I covered myself with baby powder, so my black ass could be light
Cause God is white, and Bo Derek is a ten
I hate my black skin, it's just a sin to be a nigga
Then again, I'm like the Frenchman, cause Granny's creole
And therefore, we're black French people
So I think it's best if I go to Catholic school
And study under nuns and then I'll be a Catholic fool
Cause none of these cults want none of us up
and don't none want to see none of us live to be adults, sheeit
No wonder brothers take lives for red and blue
It's the evil that men do

        Chorus

But every nigga on my block
can't stop, and he won't stop, and he don't stop (repeat 4X)

        Interlude

Nigga, nigga wake yo' punk ass up nigga!
Nigga *smack* *smack* wake yo', wake yo' punk ass up!! *siren*
(Where the fuck we at?) *helicopter*
Nigga, one time nigga
(Man I feel strange man, and I'm fin to go man)
Shit, I'ma get you out, shit, bitches man)
(Fuck that shit man, nigga what the fuck am I gonna do man?) *siren*
We go make another gold LP nigga stop trippin nigga
Nigga we own a gold LP, nigga stop trippin!

        Verse Two

By the time I hit adolescence and found hair on my nuts
I grew twelve inches so now it's time to fuck sluts
Never respected women, just had to keep my dick wet
Fucked this virgin named Lena, I made a bet
with my homies I could hit it first, then kicked her to the curb
til next year, I got a call from my man Kurt
Since I never used jims I left a seed in the Earth
that left a nigga feelin like dirt
Cause now I'm a father, and got a two-week old daughter
ironically, don't even know her name it's a damn shame
And ol girl never told me she was havin my baby
The more I thought about, she fuckin played me
Cause the family's lookin at me like I raped her
Plus with another fuckin mouth to feed I need paper
Did a caper, and took my Guinness Stout to the head
September 1990, drunk drivin, the light turned red
Somebody hit from the rear, I hit the brakes
Then lost control of the steering wheel
Hit a black Camaro and that's all I remember that night
I woke up to a five-oh flashlight
The car that I hit had exploded on impact
One woman escaped, but the driver was trapped, he burned to death
Manslaughter, off to C-Y-A
Liftin weights in the yard and playin spades all day
Now I'm eighteen, hit the County in the mix
"Name and last three!"  Austin, oh-six-six
By now Grandpa went crazy and my Uncle had died
And me I'm at the ranch makin pruno in Wayside
In ninety-three, I got probation
Searchin for an occupation, cause now I'm pickin restitution, confusion
I'm lookin at myself and seein every other nigga I knew
It's the evil that men do

        Chorus

        Chorus (to fade)

i c what u mean about him trying to make excuses. everyone is responsible for there own actions he knew what could happen if he drunk and drived.
