Wolves reject Cavs' offer of Tristan Thompson, Dion Waiters, and No. 1 pick for Love

Minnesota Timberwolves power forward Kevin Love can opt out of his contract with the team in 2015. He's also the best power forward in the NBA when he isn't breaking his hand doing knuckle pushups. His rare blend of dominating performances on the glass with deadly perimeter scoring makes him a commodity that almost any team would want to have on its roster.

The Cleveland Cavaliers possess the top pick in the 2013 NBA Draft, and there doesn't seem to be a clear-cut decision for them. They also would love to add another star player next to Kyrie Irving to really get their rebuilding process in motion. According to Andy Katz of ESPN.com, the Cavs are using that No. 1 pick in the draft, along with two previous lottery picks of theirs to try to pry Kevin Love away from the Wolves and into Cleveland. Spoiler alert: The Wolves declined.

But the Cavs are also exploring trading the top pick since they're not in love with any one player who in a “normal” year wouldn't be a top pick. According to a source, Cleveland offered the No. 1 pick, Tristan Thompson and Dion Waiters to try and land Minnesota's Kevin Love. But new Timberwolves president Flip Saunders won't move Love.

The Cavs are fond of Thompson and Waiters -- the latter being one of the top six rookies last season -- but Cleveland would love to get an All-Star forward to pair with All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving.
You can't blame the Cavs for trying. In fact, their attempt here reminds me a lot of my dating philosophy for when you're thinking about asking a woman out. The worst they can say is "no." The Cavs know that Flip Saunders covets Indiana's Victor Oladipo and the only way to get him is to move up in the draft. The thing is the Wolves want Oladipo to play with Love on the Wolves.

It's no secret that Love has said a few times that if management doesn't get the Wolves better players and make the team a winner, then he'll explore other options. The thing about that whole scenario is Love said that when David Kahn was making all of the decisions. Kahn and Love did not have an amicable working relationship. With Kahn out and Saunders in, there isn't that same tension between Love and a front office that refused to give him the fifth year on a max contract extension.

This is a new front office that is trying very hard to repair the relationship between its best player and the decision-making part of the team. The Wolves don't really have to worry about Love leaving until 2015, and maybe then they'd look at where the team is and consider moving him if it looks like a situation that can't be resolved. Until then, these rumors and trade offers will keep coming up and the Wolves will most likely keep declining them.

Hack Wilson - real

the T-wolves are idiots because kevin love is not going to stay there and they aren't going anywhere the next 2 seasons.  shoulda taken the trade offer.

that is a lot to reject

Hack Wilson - real

that is a lot to reject

if i'm the Cavs i offer them the same offer right before the season starts just to see if they change their mind

Hack Wilson - real

it would take a huge trade like this to make the Cavs relevant because no free agent wants to play in Cleveland (with a wink and a nod to Lebron)

You never know how it'll turn out but it sounds like this is a weak draft in general. Would suck being them knowing that consensus number one kid isn't eligible until next year.
