basically Jay and his people caved into the Jets on the Jets philosophy that Geno may be a lazy somvbitch and that he can't get 25-40% of his salary each year unless he shows up to voluntary workouts.  while it's not a bad thing for the JETS it sure does not cater towards Geno's best interests.  it's basically a big fuck you to Geno...not that Jay meant it to be.  He's just new to the business.



I just hope Jay doesn't make himself public enemy #1 in New York by having Cano test free agency and leave the Yankees...I don't think Jay has any idea the hit his rep will take if the Yankees best player leaves the team for a few more million in some other city...Jay will be hated by 70% of NYC sports fans

in layments, it doesn't seem his real guaranteed money is much more then a non QB would get.  the Jets embarrassed Jay on this contract negotiation.  and that is pretty rare since the Jets are a joke.

I don't think Jay caved in. I think for a second round pick, Jay got him as much money as he could get him and sat down with Geno and said he can get him "X" amount of money IF he participates in the workouts and Geno said do it.

If that clause wasn't in the deal, he would of just made less money. I can't imagine Jay making a deal like that without consulting him first.

i can understand the 2nd round pick thing but he was only the 2nd QB taken and that first QB was taken like 16th or something, right?  i think Geno could have got a better contract for himself with an experienced agent.




funny fact, i rememeber a good 10 years ago a Redskins long snapper was an agent and one of his clients as the Redskins punter.  I forget who they were but that was always a funny fact.

oh to answer sofdark the Yankees were "emptying" their salary to be under 190 mill per year until some point over the off season..sadly AFTER Raul Ibanez and Russell Martin left the team. if we had those two we'd probably have 4-5 more wins this year.

Wilson... as much as I'm with you on the subject of Jay-Z, I don't see that it was that bad of a deal.  Especially if they are confident that Geno truly will be responsible and show up for everything.   I do agree with your point that it says something bad about Geno, and is slightly disrespectful, but I think we are just splitting hairs here.  It's a second round pick so Jay-Z's chances of failing or succeeding on the contract are pretty marginal to begin with.

And no MDogg, this certainly can't be compared to the Ricky Williams fail..   I actually wanted to see No Limit succeed in the world of sports agency's.  Even Jay-Z, I don't like him as a rapper but I don't mind seeing him succeed as a sports agent.  It's good for black athletes to have more black agents (rather than mostly Jews who dominate the industry).

Not saying that Jay-Z wouldn't succeed. But the owners saw a newbie agent coming a mile away in both Jay-Z and Master P's cases, and both owners got these types of contracts. This is what owners do to inexperience agents. But I think Jay has way better business chops and in the long run he'll be fine. Sadly Geno got fucked over in the process.
