The Yanks are 27-13 in the World Series. They have 2 times the World Series appearances than the number 2 team.Only 1 other team in MLB history has at least 11 (no other team has more than 9 after that) Championships.Of all teams that have at least 3 appearances in the WS, they have the 2nd highest win percentage.____The Lakers are 16-15 in the Finals. They have 10 more appearances than the number 2 team. They have the 2nd most Championships behind that number 2 team that has 10 less appearances.Of all teams that have at least 5 appearances in the Finals, they have the 5th highest win percentage.___Since 47, the Yankees had a stretch where they won appeared in 6 of the 7 WS and won all 6. Their next stretch was 4 straight WS appearances and went 2-2. Their next stretch was 5 straight WS appearances and went 2-3. They went a while without an appearance, then hit 3 straight and went 2-1. They had another cold streak and went 0-1. Their next stretch was 4 out of 5 WS appearances and winning all 4. Then, most recently, winning in 09. Since 47: 17-7 - YankeesSince 47: 16-15 - Lakers
1st off, lemme start by saying, the laker have 17 championships as a sports franchise, not 16...they won a title with george mikan in the nbl before the merger with the nba. secondly, lemme get this straight...the yankees have 40 world series appearances in 111 years, while the lakers have 32 finals appearances in 65 years and you still dont see how the lakers have a higher success rate?and more importantly, 17/65 or 27/111, which is better?

Doing the math, the Yankees percentage of titles won is actually a lot closer than you would think. Also, the Celtics have 17 and have been around as long as the Lakers, so their rate is actually the same:Yankees: 24.3%Lakers: 26.1%Celtics: 26.1%Less than 2% difference. Overall, when you look how much more dominant the Yanks are than the next team, it's not even funny. Yankees have more wins than every other team has appearances in the World Series. The Celtics have as many wins as the Lakers in 10 less Finals appearances. No matter how you slice it, the Yankees are the top franchise of all time.
The main reason I'd put the Yankees over the Lakers is because for the longest time, baseball was more popular than basketball. So because of that the Yankees not only have legends of baseball, they have HUGE American legends. Babe Ruth, Yogi Berra, Lou Gehrig, Whitey Ford, Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantle. These are not just names that live in baseball history, these names live in American history. The Lakers have Magic Johnson, and maybe Jerry West. But the Yankees have a Murderer's Row if you will of people who influenced the pop culture as a whole, Babe Ruth being the largest both figuratively and literally. And if you don't know where that Murderer's Row name came from, then you can't speak in this conversation. And once you have heard this term, then you'll realize how often you heard people say Murderer's Row in just everyday language. Look, the Lakers are up there, they are somewhere next to the Packers, Bears, Cowboys, Celtics and Dodgers battling for #2. But the Yankees are so far ahead because baseball was American's past time for so long, because they have larger than life legends, and because the Yankees have even influenced everyday language beyond even Murderer's Row. It just is. The Lakers have a long way to go before they can catch up. But to call them second best, that's not to far off.

YOU'RE A COMPLETE IDIOT, BRO....FOREAL LMFAOTHE LAKERS ONLY TWO STARS ARE MAGIC JOHNSON AND JERRY WEST? SOMETIMES I JUST FEEL LIKE REACHIN THRU THE SCREEN N SLAPPIN THE SHIT OUT OF U..IF U DIDNT CALL URSELF A LAKER FAN, IT'D BE ONE THING. BUT U DO...AND U LIVE IN MINNESOTA. U NEED STRONGER REPRESENTATION AND BETTER PROOF OF UR FANDOM THAN WHAT U PROVIDE ON THIS FORUM, SUCKELL.
It's not counted though. Just like ABA titles. When a company is absorbed, it's history is not recognized. The reason the NBA recognizes the BAA is because the NBA is the same company. The BAA took over the NBL and then changed their name to NBA. That's what happens in Business.Only thing that matters is what's official. Officially the Celtics have 17 titles and the Lakers have 16. When you look at the official numbers the Lakers are at 24.6% (.3 higher than the Yanks). Then you can look at the Celtics and Lakers head to head in the Finals. Or that the Lakers have needed 31 appearances to get to their number, whereas the Celtics have not. My point is, when you break down "All Time" it's more than just the raw number of titles. It's about dominance. You can't dismiss how much better they are than the next team. The Yankees do not have anyone close to them in their sport. That is dominant. The Lakers, as stated, have less official titles in more appearances than the Celtics. That is not so dominant.

Hell, I didn't even list all the Yankees. You are an idiot who tries too hard to be Mr. Laker. I should have slapped the shit outta you years ago.I only listed the most notable stars. The stars that have transcend their sport. Like Jackie Robinson for the Dodgers, or Magic Johnson, or Babe Ruth. Yeah, every team has had a star. The Lakers have many Hall of Famers, more HoFers than any other franchise in the NBA. But only certain stars transcend their sport. Magic, West, Kobe, Shaq. Those names are known around the world. But the Yankees have stars that are American legends. You can't tell me that any star in the Lakers is bigger than Babe Ruth. And to prove I ain't no Babe Ruth dick sucker.http://www.dubcnn.com/connect/index.php?topic=186457.0But to judge franchises, you have to look at what they did to make a player bigger than life. Ruth was a great player in Boston. 3 out of the 7 World Series teams he was part of where in New York. But people will always remember Ruth as a Yankee, even though his better baseball was played on the Red Sox. With other players, they became legends as Yankees. There is just something about the franchise. Many franchises have stars. The Lakers have more stars than other franchises. Magic is that guy who became almost as big as Ruth. But the Yankees have those caliber transcending stars in much larger numbers than the Lakers. Yogi Berra is often quoted. There is no player on the Lakers who is as quoted as Berra.http://www.baseball-almanac.com/quotes/quoberra.shtmlAnd he got quoted because he was a Yankee. The closest star I'd compare to the Lakers is Joe DiMaggio, he's about the level I'd put Magic and Kobe and Shaq. Straight Hollywood. But no one on the Lakers reaches Ruth, Berra levels. The Lakers don't reach Yankee levels. It's take about 10-20 years of Yankee losing and straight Laker winning for it to come close. And your Laker's 17th title, don't forget who brought that title to light.
