When this option is enabled any members registering to the forum will have a activation link emailed to them which they must click before they can become full members
anyone who registers can do the above and will be signed up...any of the "members awaiting approval" are likely to be spammers we've tried to eliminate. If anyone is trying to sign up and has clicked the activation link and its not working then DM me.

I was one of the "bots" that was awaiting approval but now, just a mere 3 months later after the initial registration, it has worked.
This is what I got by the way:
