DJ Quik - 50 Ways

I've liked this song since it came out but shit, I've been playing it a lot over the past few days and this is just one of the realest songs to come out in a long time.

I don't know if anyone else gets depressed but if you do you can feel this track like a million times more. For me Quik talks about some shit I think about all the time. He mentions suicide, hell, why shit keeps going wrong, etc etc. And not once does it sound corny or contrived, its all from the heart and rapped with emotion.

Then at the end when he's talking about how he tried to come back but nobody was checking for him anymore, even after he tried to change up his style, like he feels he's failed. Its like damn, how many people can put their whole soul onto a record like this? Just another example of why Quik is the most talented, most underrated, and the realest person in hip hop.

Anyway, sorry to yang on about it, but this is my cut right now. Oh if you can, try and peep the unreleased version with James Debarge, it's even better but I guess they couldn't get sample clearance from the paul simon song.

Yeah, this song is incredible. The unreleased version is flawless though, too bad he couldn't have released that one instead.

always been one of my favourite off the album not heard the unreleased version tho, i shall try and seek that out now.

iraq would just get annexed by iran

That would be a great solution.  If Iran and the majority of Iraqi's are pleased with it, then why shouldn't they do it?

Best Track On The Album, But Yea The Original Version Is Way Better! Cause Im Feeling Genourous Im Getting It Put On dubcnn For Ya (Nima's Upping It As We Speak) - Check www.dubcnn.com Soon For It!  :)

Amazing Verse Right Here...The Way Quik Spits It Is Heartfelt Too, Watch It Live On Visualism As Well & See The Raw Emotion...

They tell me Quik, suck it up, I'm supposed to
But me and Mausberg was closer than most knew
It ain't dramatized, and it ain't a fuckin act
when you're traumatized, and it ain't no turnin back
When you're so connected, and it's hard to keep your focus
When you're so affected, and it's hard to love again
When you're so neglected - suck it up, I'm 'posed to
That ain't easy for somebody you're close to, shit
See your homey in a coffin is so wicked and vivid
It's gon' be harder on all of us, cause we gon' relive it
Over and over, drunk or sober, from October to October
I steadily feel like I'm gettin knocked over
And all the money in the world, don't make it better
And a whole bottle of alcohol, don't make it wetter
With a blur and a slur I'm still callin ya name
And on top of this drama you add fame? Wild
But when you start to bubble then your friends they spite you
And if you go to church, then hip-hop won't like you
I feel like a giant on a worldwide stage
but at the same time trapped in a real tight cage
With no way out, I play out, then I come back
Cause there's an unwritten law that says I can't be wack
So I put on my game face, go back to the same place
Only to realize that y'all ain't got the same taste
Even with somethin new, they look at you cold
And without a hot face, consider you old
And leavin me stressed and broken-hearted
How could I be finished with West coast rap? I helped start it!

Oh And Before I Go...

IF YOU DONT OWN THIS FUCKING ALBUM GO AND BUY IT NOW!

I wish they would have kept the OG version on the CD.  It's 10x better.  Both versions sample the Paul Simon song, so I don't think it was that they couldn't get clearance.

Well, I prefer the album version, apart from the hook on the OG is better.

the 50 Ways chapter on the VISUALISM DVD is awesome. it is raw, you wont see anything realer than that.

Below are the comments that we posted on www.raw-impact.com from both Devin DeHaven and myself.

22. 50 Ways

Directors Comment: I always felt odd about artists who spoke alot on fallen friends in their songs. I think in some cases other artists have used that as a jump off point for success. In this case its completely about the pain Quik feels from losing his friend. Every time Quik would go to screen that scene he couldn’t even make it all the way through. I saw the same emotion from the others in the camp who know Maus well.

Raw Impact Comment: Just have to make a comment on this scene. This is one of, if not the most moving segments I have ever seen on film. The sheer emotion and feel of the footage will bring you close to tears. The way in which Quik's pain is conveyed is simply outstanding. In this scene you see the real DJ Quik. After the first time watching it, I was speechless.
