This is the origin of hip hop. "Real Hip Hop" if you will. Lighthearted party music made from disco breaks. Next, this is what the rabid "purist" nerds claim is "real hip hop".I don't see many similarities. Why so serious? The hypocrisy in so many "real" rap fans opinions would be comical if they weren't so obnoxious and judgmental towards others.
Hip Hop is not music . Hip Hop is a culture & Rap is the music of hip hop .So stop with that real hip hop shit
When the person many call the greatest producer in hip-hop teamed up with the person many call the greatest rapper, they came up with this track...http://www.youtube.com/v/5wBTdfAkqGU?version=3&hl=en_US&rel=0That's a straight up party track, and one of the most recognizable tracks in the world. Once an old girlfriend of mine asked me how can I claim this track was real hip-hop, and I said because it's still played at parties.Hip-Hop is party music, you always heard me talking about how Fresh Prince was real hip-hop. Simply put, if it's from the heart, and it's real to the person making the music, then it's real hip-hop. If it's manufactured hot garbage by a label trying to make some money, then it ain't hip-hop. To me, this is as hip-hop as it gets....http://www.youtube.com/v/Vt-96_byt68?version=3&hl=en_US&rel=0Dude was cocky, bragging about being #1 and he was speaking from the heart. Especially this line.... Aiyyo I'm tired of people judgin what's real Hip-Hop, Half the time you be them niggas who fuckin album flop, YOU KNOW! Boat done sank and it ain't left the dock, C'MON! Mad cause I'm hot; HE JUST - mad cause he not!"That shit was in Nelly's heart, and that's how he felt and it's real. I don't care what you think of Nelly, that's some real shit right there.

Those two songs you listed were made for the masses and to generate sales. Not to move the music forward. The more mainstream = the less Hip Hop. That Nelly track especially was pure pop.
"#1" was one of Nelly's only solid recordsalways did fuck with that song
