Something tells me Mariners don't want to give up another draft pick for a pitcher, which is why I don't think M's are interested in Santana. They should've pushed hard for Matt Garza imo. If M's WERE willing to give up another draft pick, Ubaldo would've been your man, as Ubaldo for 4 years/48 mill is an incredibly good bargain compared to what Santana's crazy ass is demanding.
Mariners need offense probably more than they need pitching though. Hope they make some moves and make the best of their Cano contract.

Nah, not sure what the exact rule is (lower 50th percentile of the league maybe?) but because of where we finished last season, our draft pick is protected so that's not an issue. More offense would be nice, but the rotation is still a bigger question mark. Last seasons rotation was a mess with guys like Saunders, Harang, Bonderman, Mauer, etc etc sucking it up at the 3-4-5. The offense was certainly not where it needed to be, but the pitching (bullpen also) was just as big, if not a bigger problem. As far as the offense goes, I feel a lot better about who we have currently than what we have in the rotation. There's certainly question marks about a number of the guys out there, but for the first time in a while there's some options, and positions are more well accounted for than in the past. I'm certain we're still exploring trade possibilities, but I don't know of other offensive options outside of Nelson Cruz, who I'm not wild about for a number of reasons.

I forgot you guys even had Aaron Harang. Shit, you're right, you guys do need the pitching pretty badly. Randy Wolf is done, Scott Baker I think has a decent chance to make a comeback as a 5 pitcher.
Are you sure about the draft pick protection rule? So M's didn't lose anything from the Robinson Cano deal?

Not sure exactly how it works but the first rounder is protected, so the teams that didn't perform as well aren't giving up front-end picks. From what I hear it's second or third round guys that we'd be losing (or lost for Cano) but like I said I'm not sure.

I believe the Mariners were amongst the 10 teams with protected first round picks. As a result the Yankees got the Mariners's 2nd round pick after the Cano signing but I think they later gave it away to the Cardinals when they signed Beltran.
Pretty nice deal for the Orioles. If Ulbaldo can be the guy who managed to survive the pitchers' graveyard that is Coors Field, this could be a huge deal for the O's.
They'll still be competing with the Yankees for 3rd place in the division though.

His shoulder has a boo boo already:( I hate it when studs have injuries. I like the O's signing as well. It's a lot of guaranteed money, but the market for SP is weak for the next few years.

His shoulder has a boo boo already:( I hate it when studs have injuries. I like the O's signing as well. It's a lot of guaranteed money, but the market for SP is weak for the next few years.

Impressive outsider knowledge lol. By all accounts its nothing serious and he's already throwing in the bullpen again so I'm not worried about it. Obviously if the problem persists then it's a problem but at this point I don't see that happening.

I hate to see injuries derail young careers. I shed some tears when Strasburg and Harveys elbows popped:(
