Yes they would have, A-Gon was nearing free agency and there was no way the Padres were going to be able to keep him around financially (let alone keep him in fucking Petco). Smart teams do smart things like trade players with value that they can't keep around for good up-and-coming prospects (I'm explaining this because you Yankees fans have probably never seen smart transactions like this happen).
And Boston shipped him out because A). his contract was a pain in the ass and B). the Red Sox found somebody dumb enough to take the Crawford and Beckett contracts IF A-Gon was included.

Lol @ Mariano already trying to sell a book, guarantee you he doesn't say that if Cano is still in NY. But Cano is a sellout  for leaving the poor small market Yankees and selling out to join the Mariners.

1-already trying to sell a book??  Dude's been retired for 8 months now and has some knowledge to drop for the world.

2-Mariano has no vested interest in the 2014 Yankees so why would he care about Robbie leaving?  If he really was passionate about it he wouldn't have retired.
