The Official Cleveland Cavaliers thread
M Dogg™:
Also, I was about to post a huge explanation of how I defined my NBA generations, but that got to be too long and I feel asleep last night typing... LOL... so this is just a short overview.
By draft class
1978-1983 - the Magic/Bird generation. Defined by draft classes with few superstars, lots of solid role players and this would build the foundation of the 80's.
1984-1988 - The lottery generation. In 1984, tanking became a thing because of the best draft class of all time. So in 1985 the NBA put in a lottery to reduce tanking. Foundation of the 90's NBA.
1989-1995 - The expansion generation. Aside from 1994, the draft classes were very weak, usually one or two great players per draft, and the league was depleted from all the expansion teams of this era.
1996-2000 - The Hip-Hop generation. This generation was too cool for school. Many left school early in '96-'97, or skipped college all together. This caused the early draft classes to be very deep, but later draft classes to be terrible.
2001-2005 - The International/High School generation. Highlighted by the 2003 draft, this was the generation that teams started looking internationally to draft. More skipped college or just went one year.
2006-2012 - The one and done generation. NBA changed the rules because college basketball was suffering since 1996. Now players have to go one year in college, international players are not seen as good enough anymore due to lack of defense.
2013-now - Not sure what it'll be seen as, but the 2014 class was so deep that this usually signs the change of a new generation. 2013 was an okay year too. One thing is for sure, lots of tanking in this generation so far. Might see a change in the lottery soon.
