Despite a much-talked-about inner conflict at the label, Cash Money Records founders Birdman and Ronald "Slim" Williams have been listed again on the latest edition of Billboard's Power 100 List.
After being listed at #50 last year, Billboard's 2015 Power 100 List has Birdman and brother "Slim" at #90 in the 2015 list. The publication's description for the label founders notes the recent turmoil at Cash Money but also cites a huge 2014 for the label owing to the commercial success of Nicki Minaj's latest album and Drake's long-running stay on the singles charts.
Even though Lil Wayne is reportedly suing Cash Money for as much as $51 million, Billboard's short-profile of the Williams brothers also features a Weezy-friendly quote from Slim. "When I first met Wayne in the early '90s at an autograph signing," he said of his most memorable artist encounter. "He was like 9 years old. But he was very impressive and confident."
Recently, former Hot Boys rapper Turk made headlines for news that he is seeking $1.3 million in damages for being swindled out of his royalties at Cash Money, according to TMZ. Similar to Weezy's request, Turk is also looking for a handover of the rights to his music recorded on the label and TMZ reports "shady accounting" on the part of Birdman and Cash Money as the source of Turk's discontent.
Apple exec Jimmy Iovine, Roc Nation CEO Jay Brown, Epic Records executives L.A. Reid and Sylvia Rhone, and Warner/Chappell Music North American President Jon Platt also made the annual Billboard list.
