Anyone that tells you it has anything to do with anything other than sales and mainstream appeal is fooling themselves.

And let's face it -- the previous albums weren't blockbusters sales-wise, so the powers that be knew they had to slim him down and package him differently.

Maybe I'm tripping, but this dude sounds more and more like Kendrick to me. Not trying to say that he's as good of a rapper but just saying his tone and just his style in general is similar. Maybe that's why he's rapping more now?
