Yew, it's funny that...most people like to slap on east-coast hip-hop for winter and summer wise west-coast and the dirty south (me included).

L.A. = Sun, beaches, palm trees, blonde bitches, locs etc...
N.Y. = Snow, rain, trains, graffiti, Timbs etc...

Cruising to Illmatic in summer and Dove Shack in winter  :-\

There is a preference to it and can add to the immersion, but we all play what we want to hear when ever we want.

A lot of west-coast classics were released in winter back in the day, Chronic was launched in winter 92 but landed with a bang and ruled in summer 93.

If i throw on albums like Doggystyle, Lethal Injection in November...nostalgia always kicks in.

the chronic came out december

doggystyle november

dogg food october

all eyez on me february

2001 november

consensus top 5 west coast albums all came out in fall/winter lol

haha, i don't think Dogg Food is in the consensus as a top 5 westcoast album of all time, but you struggled to come up with 5 with winter releases, with Pac's barely making the cut, so kudos for trying.  Pac's was Feb, but that was close enough to summer in my hood, we get warm weather in March, so I bumped that album in warm weather.

Westcoast music just sounds so much better when the sun is shining and the weather is warm.

Exactly.  These young cats don't understand, it took months for albums to marinate and get airplay and reach the masses.  Just because an album got released on a certain date, didn't mean you had immediate access to it.  It took weeks, sometimes months after release date for our stores to get some of the more underground stuff.  Chronic released winter but it didn't really hit serious airwaves, MTV, BET until Spring.  Like you, I remember bumping the Chronic that summer.

And, once it snows, i'm into the grittier stuff.  I put on Nas, Gangstarr, Primo, etc.

Unfortunately, with the way streaming and music is now, Crooked I will release later this year and it will be all but forgotten by the time Spring rolls around.  Just the nature of the business nowadays.

just because everyone has ADD and can't properly appreciate a body of work nowadays doesn't mean we need to abide by those standards

crooks album will still be around come summer .. so if all the casual listeners forget it by then, doesn't mean u have to follow suit

a good body of work deserves to stay in the deck and the consumer should let it marinate properly

some of us cats still approach music like this

i'm a west coast artist and will probably drop winter as well .. my goal is to make the album as good as i possibly can, the date isn't going to hinder that for me

No extra exertion in my case.  Just say what you mean when you post.  When you rank Dogg Food in the top 5 westcoast albums of all time, i'm gonna correct you.  Appreciate you coming correct and fixing it.  Now if you wanna backtrack and say 'oh those were the first 5 that came to mind' totally cool.  Should've just said that in the first place.

In 40 years of hip hop releases, of course there are going to be release dates every month for the whole year.  Not sure what the purpose was of you saying you found a random 5 albums released in the winter, but you do you do man.  Still doesn't change the notion that Westcoast rap sounds much better in the warm weather in my eyes.

he's guna continue acting like these are just a random 5 albums lmao

and talking about "correcting me" for calling dogg food a top 5 west coast album as if it's not a matter of opinion rofl

on this forum those are very much considered by most in the top 5.. top 10 at most

that's great that u think california music is more suited for california weather .... nobody is going to argue that, as it's pretty much the consensus

I think it's great that those are your personal top 5 Westcoast albums of all time. 4 of the 5 daz was heavily involved in, either rapping or producing. Glad to see you giving the man his due in light of all the hate he receives from others here. You obviously hold him in high regard and recognize his place in the history of westcoast rap.

In terms of impact Dogg Food might not be top 5 but for me it is peak Deathrow sound perfected and I might prefer to bump it over Chronic or Doggystyle.
