Dom was my favorite of the last decade's new West artists. I was checcing for him over a new Nipsey tape. I was checcing for him over a new Kendricc tape, etc. But then he started releasing bad albums, which has consequences. Now I don't even checc for the niqqa anymore. If this album is a return to his past glory, then I will be all over it. Fact is, IMO, his best work was done over a decade ago. "By Dom Kennedy" felt meager and rushed. Its follow-up, "L.A. is Not for Sale," had interesting slowburn production, but he started mumbling his lyrics and sounding uninterested. I only sampled some of the subsequent stuff and couldn't even be bothered to listen to it in full.

He committed the classic fall-off that many artists go through, and my theory is because he didn't sign to a major label to help him develop. Instead, his skills atrophied.
"Detox" is a myth -- Bigfoot, Loch Ness Monster, Area 51, Iraq having WMD, Detox...you get it now?  It was invented by the Aftermath marketing department to maintain the fans' attention.  Notice how everytime a new Aftermath album is ready to come out, they always mention Detox is next up?  Because they are using the invention of "Detox" as a way to market other albums.  The sooner you realize that Detox is NOT REAL, the sooner you'll feel liberated.  Oh yeah, f.u. Aftermath for fooling us fans.

This is a great example of why I'm not really a Dom Kennedy fan anymore. What's with that high-pitched cadence? Lose the annoying affectation and rap with your normal voice.
Loved Dom a decade ago, then his projects (to me) fell the fuck off.....but so glad I checked for this album - half way in, no skips, it's fantastic - he sounds hungry again. Production crisp.
