My worst loss is like $60 but I've had instances where I've lost $20 too. I thought I had it bad. How do you lose $6,000 anyway?

I lost 6,000 just because I told them I was transferring on Jan. 15 instead of on Dec 31st a few months ago, but found out all at once when everyone received their 6K for the summer and I didn’t.

I was leaving a job for another job and the fine print of the contract said you have to tell them before Dec 31st that you are leaving, well I told them in January.  But it was really odd because it was just some fine print and then suddenly on my last day of work before the summer (teachers have summers off) when everyone received their July and August pay I just didn’t get it.

So in one day when everyone that did the same thing I did all year got their 6,000 I didn’t get it and everybody else did just because of some fine print that nobody seemed to know was there.  It’s the weirdest thing, and I checked the fine print and it is actually there it’s just weird how nobody seemed to know that, because people love to talk about contracts and money and quitting and changing schools all the time that’s like all they talk about because they don’t actually care about the work.

I actually do good work so admittedly I’m not that focused on such things, because honestly it does change your focus.  I’ve seen teachers that get so focused on the money and whether or not they are getting screwed, etc, or so focused on being friends with staff or management they have no focus with the students.

So bottom line, somehow I didn’t see, and nobody mentioned some fine print in the contract and all I had to do was inform like two weeks earlier and I would have gotten 6,000K

Pretty crazy, but remember I’m in the Arab Gulf and I’m one of the only Americans at this school.

I also once lost 20,000 in one month on a computer business I opened when I was only 19 (and didn’t even know anything about computers.

Yo Scitt, I think I might have told you before but remember that Fantasy Music (like fantasy football but for music) idea we were running with back in 01’?    It was cause I thought my idea was so genuis I took out Granny’s College Fund for me and burned through it in one months like a dumbass thinking I was the next Suge CEO at 19.  We had an office, logo, contracts, furniture, lawyer, and my shisty business partner was taking his bitch out to eat on the company credit card.  It all foiled in one months and 20K later.

^^that one doesn’t surprise me that much because I was a complete moron from ages 15-24 cause Pac died when I was 14 and I wasn’t the same after that for many years.

Yeah homie it all started cause I was paying the dude to make our fantasy music/fantasy hiphop website, and he just swindled me into doing a full on computer store/business.  That’s funny that after all these years I never told you that story, considering you were in on it with me.

To make a short story longer, my neighborhood best friends brought over their friend from work Tyrone one night after partying and so on and saying how Tyrone was the coolest guy ever and like taking these guys to clubs and fixing them with girls (one of the friends was overweight and the other was a bit shy so they needed a little help).

So this guys brother nearly made the NBA he played in that D League I think it’s called where guys like Linsanity, Smush—get 10 day contracts the same year Rodman played in it and played against him and was making 100,000K in Europe playing ball.  So Tyrone was going on and on about his business/investment plans and how they were gone turn the brothers 100K into millions and so on.

So I casually mention to him that my grandmother has a college fund but I’m not in college and advise on investing it in something else…. I also casually mention how I want to start a business for the Fantasy Record Label and since he’s a computer guy (worked at Office Depot said he was lead salesman could sell ice cream to an Eskimo and that he builds websites).   So all I did was ask him to build me a website for Fantasy Music and was gonna pay him for it.

He took that little opening and ended up all 4 of us were in on a business as he was building my website and we were even going to open up a computer/electronics store/build websites, etc.  Of course I was paying for it with poor Granny from the farm in Arkansas money that she’s spent her whole life saving Pennies and pension from her WW2 veteran husband who died in the service.

Every week I’d check with him, “are you done with the website, are you done yet” and he’d show me like some coding or some shit and some button for the page or something and that he was almost done.  As for the computer store they used to laugh behind my back when I’d make suggestions.  Not that my suggestions were good, I was an idiot, but still I’m the one paying.  They even went to a lawyer without me to discuss the business.  Since we also used the business money to rent a nice apartment, I happened to hear them from my room when I was supposed to be sleeping, talking in the living room about how the lawyer they’d secretly gone to had said what idiots we were and how we’re blowing money.  They would’ve just continued to blow the money but I stopped them there.

(Interestingly enough the money was never in my possession—the money was actually not in my account but a business account so, it was transferred from Granny’s College Fund to the business account, not me directly.  It only needed two of the four signatures to withdraw all the money.  But they were old neighborhood friends so even if Tyrone tried they wouldn’t have signed with him, but they could’ve just taken it all.  What was left of my grandmothers son (my legal adopted dad) took back into his own account and subtracted for the 99 Camri I still drive, and then roughly 10,000 I finally got into my own account a year later that’s what was left).

1 month and 20K later I still had no website, 20K was down the drain, business folded, and I never saw Tyrone again. This all went down the initial excitement and convo with Tyrone and friends at the same time period you and I were on the phone hyped up about it and doing the fantasy section on the forum and you sent me the Royce (which was Classic) and RBX cd.  It all started cause of that.

Well if they wanted to straight up rob me all it would have took was for 2 signatures to just simply in one day withdraw all the money from the business account.  They never got together and did that but it would have been their right because we were 4 equal business partners and according to the business contract it only took 2 signatures to withdraw all the money.

So now you might wonder, well why would my legal father take money out of dear old granny’s account and then give us all equal power over it??  I mean that’s crazy, it’s almost as if they equally inherited my grandmothers fund because it went straight to our business account and need of two signatures (not simply my own). That’s insane!!

The only protection was, my father sent us to a lawyer friend of the family to do the contracts but that guy (who was a family friend and like an Uncle to me personally I was childhood friends with his son and spent many nights in his home) he was busy and had us with his partner at the firm.

So they thought they’d covered themselves by putting in the contract that any debt from the business would be owed back to my (legal) father.  Well good luck with that.  How are you gonna get 20K owed out of 19 year kids who barely even have jobs?   So my dad mentioned casually every now and then going after them legally but never did.

i mean... to me it sounds like they didn't wana flat out rob you to your face, but rather come up off a good chunk of the money in a slick manner so that you wouldn't suspect a thing.

Hard to really pin point it to a single day but if you really think of what started the chain of events i’ve lost over 20k multiple days

Well I had been trying to be a good boy and save money, but after getting screwed out of the 6,000 in the incident a few weeks ago, I figured, “ahh what the hell, in for a penny, in for a pound” and now I’ve just started blowing money like mad — maxing out my Mastercard now..

So I’ve effectively went from thousands in savings to thousands in debt over the course of less than one month.  What hell…
