regulate, take a look over your shoulder and anything between them represents first era of warren g musi which is made of leads over keyboard chords and raw synth bass.

i want it all album represents second era of warren g music which is my all time favorite that he stops fucking with leads and uses more live guitars, live bass gutars and rhodes instead synths and leads. everything sounds more live and almost like a jam session of a few musicians.

return of the regulator album represents third era of warren g music which he is addapted to post 2000 west coast hip hop. less live instruments and more midi string, piano, keyboard sounds which i think very dope for those years.

in the mid night hour and following albums represent fourth era of warren g which i hate. till this day i still dont understand what kind of music it is. he just seems confused with "in the mid night hour" album.

Excellent breakdown!  Mid Night hour is his weakest album.  He seemed to be very confused to what sound he was going for post 2000, and lost that signature G Funk sound that made him stand out early on in his career.

Snoop is in the summertime video...

That album is far from classic. Summertime in the LBC is classic for sure, but the album as a whole isn't very good.

I agree unfortunately.  Other than Summertime in the LBC and This is the Shack, the only other track i really enjoy is Smoke Out feat. Montel Jordan.  He was big at the time with THIS IS HOW WE DO IT and I remember it struck me as so odd that he would be on Dove Shack track, other than they were both on Def Jam.  Why this wasn't a single, i'll never know. Would've been a great followup single.

But none of the songs on this album had the classic G Funk sound Warren was producing at the time, seemed a bit darker.  I honestly don't think Warren had much involvement in this album at all.  Didn't have any GFunk guest spots.  5 Footaz and The Twinz were all over each other's albums and Warren G, yet none of them had guest spots on any of the Dove Shack stuff.  And other than Bo Rocc, no one else from the Dove Shack were on Twinz or 5 Footaz albums either.

there's no way midnite hour is weaker than g-files

might not be his best work, but these tracks all kill anything on g files

and after listening to it right now, i can actually see what style he was goin for on this one.. it's more of a jazz lounge vibe. simple drum beats with laid back loops. not as advanced as his best production, that's for sure. but still has its lane.

Ah i totally forgot about GFiles!  You’re right, that is his worst album. Awful.
