He came up with a unique sound at the time, the sped up soul samples.  He produced classics for Jay Z, Twista, Do or Die, etc.  His first three albums were classics.  Common's BE and FINDING FOREVER were also classics.  Can't deny he was a very good producer.

Problem is ever since then, he's tried to repeat the formula and come up with another unique sound and he hasn't been able to replicate his success since.  The autotune, the weird production, the strange behavior, all marketing strategies to try to set him up as a unique artist again....but it's not working anymore.  He's panicking and getting even more and more outrageous hoping to catch that lightning in a bottle again and it's just not happening for him anymore and he doesn't know what to do.  Being outrageous and strange is not unique anymore because so many people are doing it.

The unique thing now is to go back to the old tried and true original sound. Best thing he could do is go back to his original sound which made him a success and got him all his fans and embrace it and enjoy it and ride the wave into retirement.  What's old is new again. If he released an album that sounded like College Dropout again, THAT would be unique and get him the success he wants.
