THE GAME: "I'M THE BEST RAPPER FROM COMPTON"
abusive:
I think that Nas is the new Rakim. Rakim was the best rapper in the late 80's. For years it became fashionable to consider him the greatest rapper ever unquestioned. It was like blasphemy to say otherwise. The same goes for Nas now. He hasn't had a hit in years and many have passed him lyrically and put out better projects. I skimmed through the new album out of curiosity. It's light. Nothing groundbreaking. Nothing that made me want to come out of retirement and write. To each his own tho. Keep the I don't like anything narrative going if it makes you feel better. I stand by what I said tho.

who has passed Nas lyrically?
lyricism has gone the opposite way since the 90s...it has been severely dumbed down so much so in fact that people actually think that Kendrick is an elite MC :-[

Doesn't surprise me that these rappers getting into their 50's and 60's have slowed down a bit. I would hope these younger cats in their 20's can do a better job rapping than an old man. It's so funny how people are like "Nas fell off", "Daz fell off", they don't rap as well as they did 40 years ago. Seriously? We all slow down as we age. People thinking these rappers have some sort of magic pill that keeps their brains from ever slowing down, or aging start to creep into their lyrics and music. I'm happy to get anything from these guys at this point.

while i get the sentiment, it doesn't always work like that with music
quincy jones was 50 years old when he produced thriller
burt bacharach was 53 years old when he had his biggest hit
so while the youthful hunger you have in you generally drives u more in hip-hop, it's not out of the question for these guys to maintain greatness and put out a classic in this day n age
i feel like an old man putting out my solo debut at 38 ... but i know for a fact it's my best work yet

Production is different from rapping.
You know first hand, RBX was not nearly as quick and spry on his raps for your album as he was back on the Chronic. He was much slower, slurred his words. But hey, he's 35 years older, what do you expect?
It's not about hunger or drive...it's more about mental aging. People just aren't as quick on their feet when they get up in their 50's, 60's and 70's. They slow down.
