This has got to be one of the all-time petty moves in rap. I was in a (rare) good mood today and this old Nas classic from 06' (the last year of hip-hop) came to my mind. So I went to Itunes to put it on repeat.Nas "Can't Forget About You" - One of Nas' most heartwarming songs. And it's reflective for the listener (in the way other Nas classics like "Just a Moment") can make you reflect on your own life. And one of the most heartwarming lines in "Can't Forget You" is a line for the listener to reflect back on special moments in THEIR life like "the woman with whom YOU first made love". Notice, Nas is using the second person. "Some things are foreversome things are notIt's the things we rememberthat made the world hotand fit in your mind in a place so snugLike with whom is the womanthat YOU first made love" But if you listen to the current version on Itunes he ruins it by inserting a petty diss to Kelis:"Some things are foreverSome things are notLike my mom's cooking I'll never forgetAnd my x-wife (Kelis) that made me sick"and then cuts to the chorus (LAME)
Weird. I hadn't heard of this happening where artists will go back in and redo songs on Itunes (other than clean edits). Was this a recent change? Wonder how many other songs out there have alternate versions on ITunes that we don't know about.
