The Magic should’ve taken it at least once in those two years maybe twice—especially once they had Horace Grant in 95 NBA finals that starting 5 was the best in the league — Hardaway, Nick Anderson, Dennis Scott, Horace, Shaq. You had Hardaway who could do it all and Scott to hit 3’s if they collapsed on Shaq and Horace to take pressure off Shaq in the post—knew what it took to win championships.
I always felt like destiny was in the Magic’s hand for those two years—they won the draft lottery two years in a row and got Shaq and then Anfernee Hardaway, and I thought Hardaway was the next Jordan (not Grant Hill, and eventually Kobe came and he manifested into the real Jordan successor).
I’ll never forget Nick Anderson missing 4 free throws in a row — it was a sweep after that

injuries really robbed Penny of that chance to be that successor...by the time he joined the Knicks he was beyond washed :'(
Grant Hill although a great player never had a chance to be like Mike

penny was never the scorer or defender mike was .. he was closer to a magic type than mike tbh
grant hill was a baller but simply not on that level
kobe was the only answer

for sure Kobe was MJ’s successor…but I think Pennys scoring would have increased without Shaq on the team…then again when he went to Phoenix it actually decreased if I remember correctly
he wasn’t a great defender though you’re right
