Public Enemy - It Takes A Nation Of Millions
The first real time that a hiphop group got real political on us and still sold millions of records.

Eric B and Rakim - Paid In Full
Whilst everyone else was rapping over heavy rock influenced breaks and beats, Eric B's funky production and Rakim's revolutionary rhyme style were a breath of fresh air.

NWA - Straight Outta Compton
Dre has said himself that he doesn't really like this album, but it is a landmark album, the birth of gangsta rap to the mainstream audience, and a group straight repping the west.

Dr Dre - The Chronic
Nobody knew what Dre was gonna do after leaving NWA, and he suprised many with the sound of the Chronic. He created the laid back, G-Funk vibe on this album, and it gave birth to so many dope rappers.

Wu Tang Clan - 36 Chambers
Whilst most other people at the same were trying to go funky to compete with Dre and the West Coast, the Wu released one of the grimiest hiphop albums ever. Although you could argue that this was basically just going back to the old school, RZA's martial arts influenced beats mixed with the dopeness of rhyming of Ghostface, GZA, Method Man and co was entirely fresh, and was something that I feel hiphop needed at that time.
