Some of his early solo stuff (taken from the albums "Curtis", "Roots" & "Superfly" which are arguably his best work)

- (Don't Worry) If There's A Hell Below We're All Gonna Go
- Freddie's Dead
- Get Down
- Give It Up
- Pusherman
- The Makings Of You
- Underground
- We The People Who Are Darker Than Blue

My favorite Curtis Mayfield stuff is his stuff with the Impressions.  Jerry Butler was a backup guy in the band, and later went on to be their lead singer, then left the group.  The impressions Launched Curtis Mayfield, then Jerry Butler's career.  Jerry Butler had as many hits as Curtis did, the Impressions are amazing.  My favorite songs from back then were

People Get Ready (Of course).  If you wanna know what Jerry Butler sounds like, he sings half the song, Curtis sings the high parts, Jerry sings the low parts.  Curtis: "People Get Ready" Jerry: "For the train To Jordan"  I Love when Curtis goes "Believe me now..."  Awesome song.

Another good song he did back then was "Gypsy Woman" man, that's some smokey stuff there, I love that stuff.  You can hear a lot of Jerry Butler in that one, too.

Also, "Keep on Pushin'" is good.  Almost ALL of the Impressions songs were good.

If you wanna hear some good Jerry Butler, listen to "Only the strong survive", "Make it easy on yourself", "What's the use in Breakin' up?" "Never gonna give you up", and of course, the greatest Impressions song of all time, "For Your Precious Love".

Now, THAT's music.
