Pimp Slapp'd lawsuit
« on: June 26, 2003, 12:38:36 PM »
Rap star Snoop Dogg is being sued by a man who left a message on his answering machine. The message was included on the rapper's album.

According to court papers filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, the man identified only as 'John Doe' left a voice mail for the rapper, whose real name is Calvin Broadus, last October.

Snoop Dogg then used the phone message he left as part of a song to taunt rival, rap-mogul Suge Knight, called Pimp Slapp'd.

Suge Knight is the founder of Death Row Records and is suspected of having links with gangs involved in turf wars in the Compton area of Los Angeles.

The message included expressions of support for the rapper in his "turf war" with Knight, who was released from prison last month after serving two months on parole violations.

Knight also served five years in prison in the late 1990s.

John Doe is now suing for common law appropriation of voice and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

"Unfortunately, the plaintiff now fears for his life. Mr Knight is a burly, convicted felon and is rumoured to be involved with gangs, to threaten, assault and hurt people," the lawsuit said.
