Lennox Lewis admits he is struggling with the decision whether to retire or continue boxing.

Lewis admits he's "getting old" but finds himself wrestling with the same questions that plagued former world champions Muhammed Ali and Sugar Ray Leonard.

"I'm no longer boxing to prove anything to anyone. I have proven myself," Lewis tells the British Sun newspaper. "But when I watched Ali and wanted him to give up and also Sugar Ray, I kept wondering to myself 'What is it that keeps these men going, what makes them go on?'. Is it the money? The fame? Glory? I'm still trying to work out that answer."

Lewis says he is continuing to explore a rematch with Vitaly Klitschko, which some observers estimate will exceed the $160-million US generated by his previous bout against Mike Tyson.

"There is a part of me tugging my mind and saying 'Give it a rest now', but there is another part saying it is time to get back in the ring and beat up Klitschko," explains Lewis.

"I don't need to fight him. There is a lot of hype surrounding a rematch so we are checking things out and then we will see what is happening."

Lewis, who stopped Klitschko in the sixth round after cutting him for 55 stitches earlier this year, says there is at least one other enticing offer out there for him - a $32-million US guaranteed fight against WBA heavyweight champion Roy Jones Jr.

"I had a chat with Roy Jones on the phone the other day and he was saying some nice things about me... (but) if I take the Klitschko fight, that will definitely be it."

^^^^right on...i had a big fight a while back about this...lenox lewis is the best heavyweight fighter EVER!!!....  people dont understand it yet...they will...he would have destroyed...ali, frazier, foreman, marciano...he'll retire as champ..thats unheard of

Vargas is not the best pound for pound fighter ever. He lost to Tito and Oscar. Oscar is a better pound for pound fighter than Vargas.

LOL... OMG@ this thread. A man that lost to Oliver McCall is the greatest boxer ever, who beat a washed up Tyson and Holyfield, over a man that beat Fraizer, Foreman, Sonny Listen and Leon Spinks, all in each of their prime. Oh Kay... makes sense to me... lol. Watch an Ali fight, and watch the fasted hands that ever graced the heavyweight division, and watch a man that can disect another fighters fighting style, and beat him with a perfect plan. Lewis has that long jab, but Ali wasn't exactly a short man with a small reach at 6'3", only 2 inches. Brits need to wake up.

Vargas, pound for pound, Lewis is the pound for pound greatest fighter today... hum. Lewis has too many pounds, watch Bernie Hopkins, Roy Jones Jr. or Marcos Anthonio Berria put on better fights than Lewis, weigh less, and do more. That's pound for pound, take each weight class and get the best person. Then see which one of them is the best out of the fighters remaining. Don't forget about Flyod Mayweather.

To close I will say this. Lewis should not retire, unless his truly afraid of Chrys Bird. Lewis for his good is seeing the end is near, but his not failing his head exams like Ali was in the last few years. I say fight until someone beats me, or I won all the money fights. Then retire on top, and let the boxing world settle it's self.
